Reuse-A-Shoe Campaign A Success
Reuse-A-Shoe Campaign
A Success
To the Editor:
The Green Team of Middle Gate School participated in the Nike Reuse-A-Shoe Program from Aprils 1 to May 2. It was a huge success! They collected over 1,500 sneakers. The sneakers will be ground into a material that will be used for walking tracks, playground surfaces, and basketball courts. Connecticut is the only state that participates in this program. Brookfield, Bethel, Sherman, also participated.
We would like to thank all the local businesses that served as collection drop-offs: Dr Baum, orthodontist, three offices; Newtown Savings Bank, Main Street & Sand Hill Plaza branches; Peopleâs United Bank, Queen Street and Stop & Shop branches; Union Savings Bank, Commerce Road; Fitness Loft on Sims Lane; Fitness 4000 in Monroe; and Newtownâs C.H. Booth Library.
The Green Teamâs program wouldnât have succeeded without the help of the parent volunteers. The parents and Green Team members collected the sneakers and helped load and deliver them to our local collection site at Bethel Middle School. A special thanks to Cheryl Reedy, of HRRA, who rented the dumpster; otherwise, we would have had to drive to Fairfieldâs Andrew Ward High School.
The Green Team proves once again, it is Nicer in Newtown.
Sincerely yours,
Green Team Members
