Katrina’s Mardi Gras A Big Hit

To the Editor:

The people of Newtown deserve a big thanks for the rousing success of Katrina’s Mardi Gras. When I decided to do something for the victims of Hurricane Katrina, my wildest dreams could not have foreseen the overwhelming success this effort would be. Special thanks goes to: 707 On Main, Pernod Ricard, Sandy Hook Liquor, The Knights of Columbus, Creative Cakes, Starbucks Coffee, and the band Suburban Legend. Thank you also to all the local businesses that donated items for the raffle and pop-a-balloon functions held that night.

In addition, several local families made additional donations to aid in the expense of decorations, giveaways, and extra raffle/pop-a-balloon items. If it weren’t for the above-mentioned generosity, over $5,000 profit would not have been raised. These monies are being sent to America’s Second Harvest and the Gulf Coast chapters of the Alzheimer’s Association. A huge thanks to Women Involved in Newtown (WIN). The organization’s willingness, generosity, and support made the idea for this fundraiser come to life. Finally, thank you to all who attended the carnival and danced until after midnight. It was truly a fun night that will benefit so many who have been hardest hit by Hurricane Katrina. I’m a believer, you can make a difference, especially with the aid and support of a great community and a home called Newtown, Conn.

Most Sincerely,

Heidi Brisson
