Capt. McMurrough Awarded The Bronze Star
US Army Captain Micaela R. McMurrough has been awarded The Bronze Star for exceptionally meritorious service while serving as a member of the combined/joint Task Force â 180 in Afghanistan.
Captain McMurrough grew up in Newtown and is the daughter of Lorraine and Michael Hurley of South Main Street. A 1998 graduate of West Point, she was assigned as a military intelligence officer and the only female on the command staff in her brigade of 1,200, Tenth Mountain Division, at Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan. This month, she returned to Fort Drum in New York State, where she is currently awaiting her next assignment.
In announcing the medal award, the US Army cited Captain McMurroughâs âtechnical and tactical proficiency, selfless service and commitment to mission accomplishment in a combat zone under the most extreme of circumstances,â adding that she has âgreatly contributed to the success of Operation Enduring Freedom.â
