The Case For Funding Schools

To the Editor:

My two sons were educated in the Newtown school system. Two of my grandchildren attend Newtown schools. Rationale for properly funding our local school system:

First, as senior citizens we must be fair and responsible. Seniors of past generations did not receive tax breaks. They shared equally in providing for the education of a younger generation. A tax reduction for seniors is certainly attractive, but I believe all citizens share responsibility to provide quality education.

Second, given the monumental problems facing our nation, an educated, informed citizenry is of utmost importance. We must avoid electing people whose only qualification for office is they are telegenic and do not cheat on their wives.

Finally, quality schools are necessary to maintain property values in Newtown. The value of our homes and businesses will fall should our schools lose their accreditation.

Very respectfully,

Paul R. Arneth
