Wintertime Parking Ban Reminder

Police remind residents that to facilitate snowplowing during winter storms, the town has an ordinance in effect that prohibits parking on towns roads from sunset to sunrise from November 15 to March 15.

If a parked vehicle is a hindrance to snowplowing, the vehicle may be towed away, police said. To retrieve the towed vehicle, the owner would need to pay a $49 ordinance fine, a towing fee, plus a vehicle storage fee, police said. Fines for improper parking also may apply.

Police Captain Joe Rios said police want to remind the public that the parking ordinance exists in order to prevent snowplowing problems from occurring. Police received several reports of illegally parked vehicles during the snowstorm of December 5–7, Capt Rios said. Unless police are able to locate a vehicle’s owner to have him or her remove the parked vehicle, it may be towed away, he said.

“It doesn’t hurt to remind people,” Capt Rios said.
