U6

Mustangs 0, Thunder 0: For Mustangs, Katherine Dirga, Jillian Carrino and Julliette Cryder played well on offense. Angela Carriero had the shutout in goal. Justine Rengilian, Kaitlyn King and Karsen Pirone played great defense. For the Thunder, Hannah Daly had a strong defensive effort, Maddie Stites played a great game in goal. Abigayle Tainter, Jenna Reilly and Aniko Walsh were strong on offense.

Wildcats  4, Cheetahs 4: For the Wildcats, Colleen Phaneuf, Shannon Jackman and Carlie Smith all played well on offense. Julia Klein and Shauna Tucker played well on defense and in goal. For the Cheetahs, Zoe Bogan, Bella DiLorenzo and Julia Kannan all had strong games.

U8

American Eagles 7, Wolverines 1: In the win, Rylee Mulligan had 3 goals, Olivia Hage scored 2 goals and Grace Sholtes and Brianna Lovely scored. Kira Smith had an assist and a strong all-around game. For the Wolverines, Olivia Bellagamba scored, Hana Rosenthal had an assist and Caroline Viselli and Mary Hufziger both played well.

American Eagles 7, Team number two 2: For the American Eagles, Rylee Mulligan, Olivia Hage, Grace Sholtes and Brianna Lovely combined for seven goals. Kira Smith added an assist and Joy Metzger played a great all-around game.

Monkees 4, Wolverines 1: For the Monkees, Sophia Andrew had a hat-trick and Emma Boland scored. For the Wolverines, Hana Rosenthal scored and Kaysie Fisher and Grace Pettinelli played well on offense. Goalkeeper Mary Hufziger was strong.

Thundering Jaguars 1, Lightning 0: Bella Jimenez scored the lone goal for the Thundering Jaguars. Alex Futterman and Erin Walsh were solid in goal, and Lindsay Merrifield and Emma Stierle had strong overall games. For the Lightning, Maddie Zipperstein and Kaitlyn Reilly played well on offense. Jenna Ehnot made two steals and Jenna Gonski was aggressive on defense.

Fighting Irish 2, Shooting Stars 0: For the Fighting Irish, Grace Corcoran and Jenna Lavelle scored a goal apiece. Catharina Hyeon and Audrey Benson played well on defense. Alison Kelleher was outstanding in the goal. For the Shooting Stars, goalier Maggie Sheridan played well. Grainne Flanagan and Ally Toth were strong offensive players, and Katie Sailer and Julia Sullivan played good defense.

U10

Lightning Bolts 3, Team Number four 0: Christina Moore scored 2 goals in the first half and Katarina Ringes also scored. Gemma Hyeon led the strong defensive stand with Kayla DiSibio and Maria Ringes earning the shutout in goal. 

Penguins  4, Team number two 1: Anna Biondi had a hat-trick and Nicole Russo added a goal. Zoe Ivan and Danielle Mola played an overall great game  with Amy Pruner playing well on defense.

The Thunder went 2-2 in the Bethel Columbus Day Tournament this weekend. On Saturday the Thunder defeated Ridgefield 3-1 and Brookfield 3-0. Makenna Cerney, Marissa Thill and Caitlyn Linden each scored in the victory over Ridgefield. In Saturday’s second game, Linden scored twice and Thill once. On Sunday the Thunder dropped the first game 3-1 to a solid team from Larchmont, NY. Marissa Thill registered the Thunder’s lone goal. The last game of the tournament was a closely played match with Old Greenwich. Nevan Gattey scored in the first half to take an early lead. Old Greenwich scored a goal in the last few minutes to notch the victory. The Thunder’s record is 7-5-1 with three games left in the fall season.

Killer Tigers 1, Mustangs 1: Mallory Lobuglio scored for the Killer Tigers while Julia Sughrue was stellar on offense, Vicky Teixeira commanded the defense and Kayla Kordish stopped shot after shot in goal. For the Mustangs, an excellent pass by Danielle Scarpa to a hustling Erin Tressler tied the game. Sarah MacMullan stayed back on defense in the second half to help secure the tie.

Purple Penguins 5, Funky Monkies 2: Cecilia Schoeni, Anna Biondi, Stefanie Carr, Katie Elkins and Diana Kiriman of the Purple Penguins were the dominate scorers supported by their tough defenders, Amy Pruner and Sofia Albano. The Funky Monkies had goals from Grace Svenson and Alexandra Manoni. Caroline Condon and Sinead Flanagan were strong in goal.

Crushers 1, Funky Monkies 0: Amanada Albanesi scored on a direct kick. Funky Monkies, Lauren Cirone and Taylor Pare were outstanding in goal and Lena Litzenburgner and Bridget Moore had great offensive performances. Crushers, Claire Beiter and Alexandra Ferris played strong defense while Kathryn Blanco was solid on offense.

U11

Wilton 5, Comets  0: Victoria Kirkman gave a strong effort at midfield. Veronica Moyer and Alana Murray provided strong defensive support and Katie Mossbarger made several saves in goal.

U14

Cyclones 7, Team number two 3: Jane Sclafani scored three goals and Emily Albrecht scored two for the Cyclones. Nicole Mendonca and Zoe Brodsky also scored a goal each. Geralyn Klein had a great game on defense and Catherine McHugh tackled strongly all day. For Team two, Emily Clark scored two goals and Megan Milano scored the third. Emily Campbell played very well at midfield and Hanah Grant played well on defense.

Boys

U6

Lightning Thunder 4, Fireballs 1: J.P. Iaropoli, Ryan Kovacs and Grant Horn scored goals for Lightning Thunder. Brydan Devaney led the defense. Rohan Mansukhani and Nick Preszler were solid on defense for the Fireballs and Justin Engler and Hunter Kirkman were aggressive on offense.

Blue Dragons defeated their Newtown opponent 2-1: The Dragons had goals from Devin O’Connell and Ryan Farrell. Will Tainter and Kyle Shelton also played well in the win.

U8

Hawks 2, Super Shooters 1: Forest Anderson scored the goal for the Super Shooters, while Thomas Coppinger and Timothy James both played great overall games. For the Hawks, Nick Weiland and Bobby Elston scored a goal each, while Kyle Duval and John Albanesi played well on offense.

Cobras 4, Blue Hurricanes 1: Dylan sock scored his second hat-trick of the season and Santiago added a goal and Tyler trede played great well as sweeper. Silas Decker made several outstanding saves. Vincent Delucia scored for the Blue Hurricanes. Henry Petrillo played well on offense and Billy Bruno played well on defense.

U10

Over Columbus day weekend Newtown’s U10 boys travel team, the Storm, played in the Bethel Columbus Day tournament. In their first game, Newtown defeated Ridgefield in an offensive onslaught 6-1. Newtown scored early with a goal by Hayes Kelchner. Mike Meyers, Jamie Cochrane, Richard Ciamarra, Austin Engler and Shane Gattey each scored a goal. Forest Weatherby and Matthew Tassiello played shut-down defense while Alex Hess and Tiernan Keene played well in goal.

Newtown played Old Greenwich in second game and lost 3-0. Richard Katrinak and Jack Riley played great on defense and Luke Caplan and Thomas Leuci had shots on goal but were unable to find the net. 

In game three, Newtown fell 3-1 to Bethel despite strong efforts from Austin Engler, Mike Meyers and Thomas Leuci. Physical defensive play by Jamie Cochrane and Jack Riley challenged the Bethel offense for large parts of the game. Ciamarra scored the only goal of the game for Newtown. Tiernan Keene and Hayes Kelchner were strong in goal.

The final game of the weekend saw the young  Newtown Storm draw to a 1-1 tie with the travel team from Fairfield. Robert Katrinak scored Newtown’s only goal with a first half blast. Shane Gattey, Luke Caplan and Hayes Kelchner kept the Fairfield defense on its toes with multiple attacks on the Fairfield goal. Matthew Tassiello, Forest Weatherby and Alex Hess played tough midfield and defense.

U11

The Newtown Strikers competed in the Nashua World Cup Columbus Day Tournament in Nashua, NH. Displaying great team effort against tough teams, the Strikers lost to the Crusaders (MA) 5-2, the FC Blazers (MA) 9-0 and tied the Scorpions (MA) 1-1. Cole Rogalin scored the lone goal in the tie against the Scorpions, while Jonathan Guilherme netted two goals against the Crusaders. The Strikers received strong play at both ends of the field from Josh Houle, John Carlson and Robby Schreiber. Tyler Dullinger anchored the defense with help from Michael O’Keefe and Liam McNichols. Matt Stewart did an outstanding job in goal.

U12

The Newtown White Lightning played in the Bethel tournament and came in 3rd in their division with 2 wins and 2 losses.

Brookfield 4, White Lightning 1: Jeremy Doski scored the only goal for Newtown. Peter Manfredonia was tested in goal but made more than 10 saves. Kevin Droniak and Will Swain played excellent defense.

Southbury 2, White Lightning 1: Newtown’s  score came late in the first half when Ryan King dribbled into the right corner and crossed the ball to Jeremy Doski who scored. Patrick Rowley and Sawyer Conrad were standouts on defense.

White Lightning 2, Westport 1: In a preview of the State Cup game to be played next week, Genti Limani scored the first goal off a great pass from Michael Cook. Michael Cook followed with a goal off a nice feed from Knute Johnson. Daniel Hamula and Carter Nordman played well in the midfield.

White Lightning 1, Greenwich 0: Peter Manfredonia made several key saves to hold the shutout. Jeremy Doski had the lone score off a pass from Michael Biacardi. Raymond Xue and Nathyn Horvath played aggressively in the midfield. In the second half, King moved to defense to work with Johnson, Conrad and Rowley to shut down Greenwich’s offense.

U14

Oskars 5, Itallian Stallions 2: For the Stallions, Evan Swain and Nick Snyder each scored hard fought goals, and Robby Russo and  Talylor Rutter played great overall games. For the Oskars, Albert Dean had a hat-trick, and Fredrik Dean and Blake Jarvis scored. Josh Harrison played a great overall game.

The Oskars 5, Man U 3: Travis Hanna, Dillon Palumbo and Ryan Pisani scored to lead the offensive effort for the Oskars. Adam Hufziger and Eric Pisani each played a solid defensive game to secure the win. For Man U, Gavin Scallon scored three goals. Kaustav Mitra played well in the striker position and Joseph Anastasi played great on defense.

The Thez 4, Strikerz 1: The Thez offense was led by Justin Germak with two goals, and Matt Janco and Ryan Szalay with a goal each. Matt Wood made great passes to set up the scoring. The defense was led by the goalkeeping debut of Jared Wray. Mitchell Roberts, Niles Wilson and Robert Silver played solid games. For the Strikerz, Michael Senf had the lone goal. Rui Michael Teixeira led the offense. Tom Cassin played a solid game in goal and Nick Shannon anchored the defense.

Windsor Soccer Club Tournament

The Newtown Cobras tied for second place in the annual Windsor Soccer Club Columbus Day Tournament with a record of 2-2-1. In the first game, the Cobras soundly defeated West Hartford by a score of 3-0. Richard Greenwood, assisted by Nick Gerbo, and Kieran Lardner combined for the first two goals. The third was added by Mergim Bajraliu, his first as a Cobra, on a rebound off a Stephen Conway shot. Newtown dominated opponent Suffield in the second match, 2-0. Patrick Riccardi netted the first score while Ian Solaski drove one in off another rebound. Game three proved to be a tougher match for Newtown with the Cobras losing to Wethersfield 1-0. In game four, the Cobras played an exciting match, ending in a 0-0 draw against a formidable and physical competitor from Garden City, NY. The final match ended in a disappointing 3-1 defeat to Somers, NY. Mergim Bajraliu added his second goal of the tournament with a header, but two penalty kicks against Newtown gave the edge to their opponent. Throughout the matches, keeper Sean Elliott led the defense, buoyed by backs Alec Lockhart, Yossi Kohrman-Glaser and Colin Moller, along with Robert Willis and Sam Langdon. Pieter Martino, Noah Sock, Devin DiNicola, Tyler Ruefenacht and Francis Saraceni contributed fine performances throughout the tournament.
