Kiva & Friends To Perform At The Mattatuck
Kiva & Friends To Perform At The Mattatuck
WATERBURY â Kiva Dance Collective and friends will offer an eclectic evening of music, dance and poetry on Saturday, May 1, from 8 to 10 pm, at The Mattatuck Museum, 144 West Main Street.
Kiva Dance Collective was formed in 1998 by Patti Buchanan and Judith Ehrman-Shapiro, who met in modern dance classes at Brass City Ballet. Their goal was to create an ensemble where women could create and perform without the confines of preconceived notions of dance.
Kiva members, now totaling ten, come from diverse training backgrounds. The Native American term âkivaâ describes the sacred, circular meeting ground which has become a central image for the group.
The performance will immediately follow the opening reception for the museumâs new exhibit, âBack to Nature: City Parks and Country Retreats,â from 6 to 8 pm.
Admission to the Kiva & Friends performance is $10 for adults, with children ages 12 and under admitted free. For more information call the museum at 203-753-0381, ext 10, or visit www.MattatuckMuseum.org. Convenient parking for all museum events is located on Park Place, directly behind the museum.
