Occupation: I am a chiropractic physician. I have had my practice here in Newtown for 25 years now. I incorporate a broad spectrum of innovative approaches into my work, such as chiropractic orthopedics and acupuncture. I am certified as an extremity practitioner. And Iâve done a lot of postgraduate work in cranial manipulations, nutrition, and sports injuries. I like to use all of that to individualize for each patient.
Family: My wife, Margaret Moss. She does the office management for me, but she is a tremendously talented artist and writer. We have four daughters. Our youngest are twins and are graduating from college this year, Dawn from Bowdoin and Heather from Bucknell University. Our daughter Meg and her husband, Brent, are in Cambridge and are expecting a baby in September and Jessica and her husband, Winston, live in Manhattan. They have two children, Kaia, who is 3½ and Andrew, who is 16 months old.
Pets: No pets. We used to have dogs. We like to have the freedom now to travel and visit without worrying about them.
How long have you lived in Newtown? We have been here 26 years. We moved to Newtown in 1981.
What do you like to do in your free time? I like to do a variety of things. I like to spend time with the family. I enjoy long walks and biking, and we like to travel. I enjoy movies, especially foreign films, and I love reading, too.
Do you have a favorite movie or book? Just recently we saw a movie called The Wind That Shakes The Barley. That was a very powerful movie. With books, I generally enjoy a variety of styles. I just finished The Narrowing Stream by John Mortimer that was very good.Â
Do you have a favorite travel destination? I think our favorite so far was Italy. We went a few years ago and enjoyed it a lot. There is so much history there, and the architecture is beautiful. The museums and the food were tremendous. The whole atmosphere was interesting.
What is the best thing about Newtown? I like that it has a small town atmosphere and at the same time, there is accessibility to a lot of other opportunities. New York and Boston are nearby. We have pretty rural roads around here, the mountains of Vermont to the north, beaches nearby. It is a comfortable area. I will say, though, that traffic has built up in the years since we moved here. But it is still a pleasant place.
If you could time travel, would you go to the future or to the past? To the past. I like reading about different eras in history and that would intrigue me more to see some of those aspects than to see the future.
Do you have personal philosophy? Itâs important to each person to identify what youâre interested in and pursue and strive for those areas. Itâs important, too, that we keep learning and do not stagnate. You need to keep learning new things in personal and professional lives.
What do you most cherish in life? I most cherish my relationships, especially with my wife and with our kids.
