Health Fair Poster Contest Winners

The Newtown Woman’s Club, GFWC, Inc sponsored a poster contest in connection with the Health and Safety Fair, chaired by Mae Schmidle, on September 16. There were three categories: K–second graders, third and fourth graders, and fifth and sixth graders.

Kindergarten through fourth graders drew a picture of a “healthy rooster” while fifth and sixth graders addressed “a good way to avoid tick bites and Lyme disease.” Winners, chosen by NWC members Ellen Baff, Ginny Chiaramonte, Rosemary Rau and Call Sellner, are:

K–second: First Place, Dyllon Chowdhury (Hawley); Second, Lindsey Gallagher (Middle Gate); Third, Tiernan Keane (Head O Meadow)

Third and fourth: First Place, Gillian Eckwall (Sandy Hook); Second, Clare Boyle (Hawley); Third, Susan Ziegler (Sandy Hook)

Fifth and sixth (from Reed): First Place, Rachel Martino; Second, Danielle Chaloux; Third, Sam Svenson

Kindergarten through fourth grade winners received gift certificates to Koenig Art Emporium provided by the Newtown Woman’s Club. Local artist Brigitte Sorensen donated two one-hour art lesson to the first and second place winner in the fifth and sixth grade category.
