Master Chorale Announces Season

The Connecticut Master Chorale, under the direction of Tina Johns Heidrich, has completed planning for its 2006-07 concert season.

On November 19, the Chorale will present its annual Holiday Prelude Concert at St Mary’s Church in Bethel. The program will feature Gwyneth Walker’s “Rejoice – Christmas Songs,” a medley including an innovative setting of Christina Rosetti’s poem “Love Came Down at Christmas,” and ending with a triumphant rendition of “Good Christian Friends, Rejoice!” Also on the program is music with steel drums, brass ensemble, spirituals, gospel, lullabies, and multi-cultural numbers.

On March 11, 2007, the Chorale will perform Karl Jenkins’ “Adiemus” and his newly released “Requiem.”  Additionally, his “Requiem” was published in 2005 and it is absolutely breathtaking. Also on the program will be the exuberant “Bless Ye the Lord” by Ralph Vaughan Williams.

A steel drum band will accompany the Chorale in its May 19, 2007, performance of “A Caribbean Mass” by Glenn McClure. This concert will also include “Songs From My Heart,”  a collection of spirituals by the master of spiritual form, Andre Thomas.

The March and May concerts will both be held at St. Rose of Lima Church in Newtown. The Connecticut Master Chorale, founded by Ms. Heidrich in 1999, is an ensemble of 55 high-caliber vocalists based in western Connecticut.

Newtown residents in the Chorale are Judy Bolduc, Ginnie Carey, Lisa Cedergren, Wendy Fong, David Jurman, Nancy Raymond, and Dan Yee.

Tickets for each concert are $18 in advance and $23 at the door; call 743-0473 or visit CMChorale.org.
