Newtown Tennis Teams Earn Wins

Newtown High School’s girls’ and boys’ tennis teams had victories this past week, with the girls prevailing 7-0 over Notre Dame-Fairfield on April 14, and both squads knocking off New Fairfield by 5-2 scores on April 18.

In the win over Notre Dame, No. 1 singles player Lauren Frazzetta defeated Tracey Kamiani 6-0, 6-0, No 2 Ale Fuentes was a 6-1, 6-0 winner over Margarita Vorobieva, No. 3 Annie Beier defeated Jackie Rzasa 6-2, 6-1, and No. 4 Rachel Durno earned a 6-3, 6-0 win over Jasmin Alicia. In doubles play, the No. 1 team of Meghan Loose and Julia Frattaroli topped Dominiqu Williams and Evelyn Alvarez 6-0, 6-1. The No 2 duo of Sara Benson and Stephanie Roman blanked Carrie Lautenslager and Quanece Williams 6-0, 6-0. No 3 players Maria Bondi and Maggie Kost were also 6-0, 6-0 winners, beating Morgan Cianelli and Biance Bertier.

Against New Fairfield, the girls got singles wins from Frazzetta in the top slot and Biondi at No. 4, and all three doubles teams came through. Loose and Frattaroli defeated Megan Ryan and Taylor Ryan 6-3, 6-2; Benson and Roman won a three-setter, getting past Melissa Vessecchia and Caitlin Ogrizovich 6-2, 4-6, 6-3, and Beier and Maggie Kost teamed up for a 6-1, 6-2 triumph over Laura Milleville and Rosa Kleoposulos in the third doubles spot.

In the boys’ tennis team’s win, the Nighthawks swept through singles competition with all four Hawks pulling out two-set victories. No 1 player Rob Beier defeated Donald Torre 6-0, 6-0; No 2 Tyler Ruefenacht defeated Eric Burfein 6-0, 6-0; No 3 Cam McCleary defeated Dan Altman 6-0, 6-0; and No 4 Ricky Fuentes topped Henn Mucallel 6-3, 6-2. In doubles action, No. 1 Connor Howell and Adam Oelberg beat Brett Ginbert and Errill Thaler 6-2, 6-2.
