After collecting the game-winning hit and earning the victory in the circle in a 9-6 triumph over Marist on April 17, Manhattan College freshman second baseman/pitcher Kate Bowen, of Newtown, was named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Rookie of the Week on April 18.
Bowen got at least one hit in all four games over the weekend, as the Jaspers went 3-1 in doubleheaders against MAAC rivals Siena and Marist.
Bowen hit .357 (5-for-14) with two doubles, five RBIs and three runs scored this week. She leads the Jaspers with a .318 batting average and ranks second on the squad in both hits (27) and runs scored (16). She has also driven in 15 runs, the third most on the team.
In addition, Bowen is 3-1 in the circle, and she leads the pitching staff with a 3.20 earned run average.
Bowen led the Newtown High School softball team to the South-West Conference championship, and to the state tourney title game in 2010.
