Lecture-Recital On Romantic Women Composers
SOUTHBURY â On Wednesday, March 28, at 1:30 pm, at East Hill Woods, 611 East Hill Road, pianist Nancy McMillan will present a lecture-recital entitled âRomantic Woman Composersâ in honor of Womenâs History Month.
Ms McMillan, a pianist who specializes in women composers, will present the lives of Clara Wieck Schumann and Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel. The program, combining lecture, visuals and piano music, will cover the creative lives of these two women, two of the best known women composers, of which there have been hundreds.
Ms McMillan obtained a BA in music from Western Connecticut State University and an MA in music history and performance from Lesley College, focusing her graduate work on four women composer-pianists. She presents lecture-recitals around the state at schools, professional organizations, and retirement communities. Her program, âFour 20th Century Women Composers,â is broadcast each March on WMNR in Monroe.
