Holy Land Journey Set For March

An ecumenical Lenten journey from Newtown to the Holy Land and Mount Sinai will be held from March 20 through the 27. Leading the journey will be the Rev Steve Gordon of the Newtown Congregational Church and Pastor Greg Wismar of Christ the King Lutheran Church.

The two clergymen have co-hosted a number of journeys together, including one the past summer to the Passion Play at Oberammergau, Germany. Their previous shared journey to the Holy land was in the spring of 1998.

Although there have been some safety concerns in Israel, the tourists returning from journeys there have reported no difficulties in reaching the sacred sites. Smaller crowds have made for easier access to many of the Biblical settings.

Included on the eight-day journey will be time at the Sea of Galilee and also at the Red Sea. The sign-up period for the trip, which is priced at $1,859 per person, closes in two weeks. Full details are available from Pastor Wismar at 425-0651 or Rev Gordon at 426-4864.
