FOXBORO, Massachusetts â More than 10,000 student-athletes from across the country have been named state finalists in the annual Wendyâs High School Heisman Program since its inception in 1994.
And a Newtown High School student-athlete is among them.
Senior Andrew Fiscella was nominated along with some 14,000 other student-athletes from each states and the District of Columbia. He was one of 20 Connecticut student-athletes who were named finalists and honored at the Northeast Regional Awards Dinner at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Massachusetts (home of the New England Patriots) back on November 20.
Students are nominated by principals, teachers, guidance counselors and athletic directors based on academic achievement, athletic ability, and outstanding commitment to the community. At the awards dinner, one male and one female were named State Winners from their respective states, with the next step being the selection of 12 national finalists representing six regions from across the country, who attended the Heisman Award weekend in New York City.
Collin Anderson of Shelton High School and Christine Strawson of Torrington High School were named Connecticut winners.
