Occupation: In 1991 I was a stockbroker, but now I guess you could say I am an entrepreneur. I am proprietor of www.biodieselwarehouse.com and president of CT Biodeisel, Inc. Currently, I am looking for a location from which to produce biodiesel fuel on a commercial level. We provide equipment and supplies, along with information, for people who want to chemically convert vegetable oil into synthetic diesel fuel. Most of my clients are interested in saving money on fuel and helping the environment at the same time. They also like the price, which is 70 cents a gallon. Basically, this technology involves taking restaurant waste vegetable oil that we get for free, and mixing it with ethanol.

I own a 2002 VW Jetta wagon and since I’ve been using biodiesel fuel, I haven’t been to a gas station since June. This technology is good for the environment because it is 90 percent less toxic than diesel, it produces 50 percent less carbon monoxide, and zero sulphur. In some European countries they automatically mix ten percent biodiesel with diesel fuel because of the Kyoto protocol. It’s a completely renewable energy source, nontoxic and biodegradable.

How Long In Newtown: We’ve lived here for seven years, four months. I grew up in Detroit, Mich., and my undergraduate degree in business marketing was at Plymouth State College, New Hampshire. I went to night school at Western Connecticut State College to get my MBA .

I spent ten years in corporate finance and I ran On The Spot Car Care under my own banner. One of my biggest clients was Sikorsky. I sold that business in April.

What It’s Like Living Here: We love it. Our High Rock Road neighbors in Sandy Hook are very friendly, and we enjoy seeing turkeys walk across out back yard, with all their chicks following behind them.

Family: My wife, Jennifer, is from Trumbull. She’s a schoolteacher in Trumbull but now she is staying at home with our children. She also volunteers at Middle Gate School.

We have three sons. Conrad is 6, Daniel is 4, and Zachary is 18 months. Even the cat is a boy. His name is Timothy.

Hobbies: I love to sail. We just took our boat out of the water in Milford. I also like to play the guitar and sing for the kids.

Favorite Books: Lately, I’ve been reading everything written by Dava Sobel. Longitude and Galileo’s Daughter are two favorites.

Organizations: I’m on the board of the Western Connecticut Federal Credit Union, where I volunteer my time. And my wife and I belong to St Rose Parish.

Favorite Vacation Spot: I was in the south of Spain a while ago, and stood in a field of sunflowers –– it was all you could see in any direction. Incredible. I liked the Mediterranean way of life, where you work in the morning, take a two-hour nap in the afternoon, then go back to work late afternoon into the early evening. Then dinner at 9 or 10 pm. It seemed so much more relaxed.

Personal Philosophy: When I was working at Pepsi and at Unilever Partnership, a joint venture with Pepsi that is like the European version of Proctor and Gamble, I put in a lot of long hours. I got to thinking that if I was going to be working that hard, it might as well be on my own business, so I started Spot Car Care.

There are many different ways to make money and benefit the environment as well. A rational approach works best. If this country can put a man on the moon, we can certainly figure out how to provide our own source of power.

Words To Live By: “Persistence” by Calvin Coolidge, 1932:              Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan “Press On” has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race.
