McKinney Appointed

Minority Whip

HARTFORD — Senator John McKinney, R Fairfield, has been appointed minority Whip of the Senate Republican Caucus by Senate Republican Leader Louis C. DeLuca, and will continue to assume a heavy committee assignment workload.

“There are a number of important issues facing Connecticut right now, especially in what is rapidly becoming an economically uncertain climate. We have a lot of work ahead of us, and I am honored by the trust my colleagues, including Senator DeLuca, are showing in my ability to help move our legislative agenda along by appointing me as Whip,” said Senator McKinney.

Senator McKinney, who is beginning his second term, will continue to serve as Senate ranking member of the legislature’s Environment Committee, and as a member of the committees on Finance, Revenue and Bonding, and Transportation. In addition, Senator McKinney will serve as ranking member of the bonding subcommittee on transportation of the Finance, Revenue and Bonding Committee.

“Clean air and transportation continue to be among the most important issues facing not only our state as a whole, but Fairfield County in particular. During the interim, I served as a member of the legislature’s Clean Air Work Group charged with making recommendations to resolve issues regarding the so-called Filthy Five Power Plants. I have also been involved with the work of the statewide summit on transportation. My committee assignments provide me with a unique opportunity to ensure that the concerns of Fairfield County residents are taken into account as the legislature debates these issues. I look forward to that opportunity,” said Senator McKinney.

Senator McKinney represents the 28th Senatorial District, which includes Easton, Fairfield, Newtown, and a portion of Monroe.
