Schieffer To Open First Gallery Exhibit At Discovery Museum

BRIDGEPORT — The first gallery exhibition of oil painting illustrations and drawings by John Schieffer III of Waterbury will open on Saturday, July 1, at The Discovery Museum, 4450 Park Avenue. The exhibition will continue through September 24 in the museum’s Lower Gallery.

A graduate of Paier College of Art in Hamden, Mr Schieffer’s whimsical work depicts animals exploring the environment with titles such as “Rhino Window Washer” and “Giraffe Roller-Skating.”

“It all started with a bear driving a little car through a hotel lobby,” says the artist. “After that it was just a parade of bears and other circus animals across my canvas. Each painting brought with it new environments for the animals to explore and problems to get into.”

Summer hours at The Discovery Museum are Monday through Saturday, 10 am to 5 pm, and Sunday, noon to 5 pm. Admission is $7 for adults, $5.50 for senior citizens, students with ID and children ages 3-18, and free for children under 3. For additional information, call 203/372-3521.
