Andrew J.   Zitnay, Jr

Andrew J. Zitnay, Jr, 70, of Newtown, died June 21 in Danbury Hospital.

Mr Zitnay was born in Bridgeport and had been a Newtown resident for 11 years. He was an inspector for the Federal Aviation Administration, retiring in 1989, and was still active as a private consultant. Mr Zitnay worked in aviation all his life and was a former employee of Sikorsky Aircraft and Bridgeport Flight Service. He was a US naval veteran of the Korean War, and he witnessed four atomic bomb detonations. Mr Zitnay was an avid model airplane hobbyist and fisherman.

Survivors include his wife, Ann F. “Nancy” (Hartigan) Zitnay of Newtown; a son, Scott T. Zitnay and his wife, Nelly, of Newtown; a daughter, Linda Murphy and her husband, Don, of Ridgefield; a brother, Ted Zitnay of Carlsbad, Calif.; a sister, Jean Wininger of Gilmartin, N.H.; three grandchildren, Libby and Joe Murphy, and Ryan Zitnay; an aunt, Mary Matthews of Milo, Me.; an uncle, Joseph Krisak of Trumbull; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may attend graveside services, with full military honors, Saturday, June 24, at 11 am in the Long Hill Burial Grounds, Middlebrooks Avenue off Main Street, Trumbull. There will be no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the American Cancer Society, 372 Danbury Road, Wilton, CT 06897.

Arrangements are by the Redgate – Hennessy Funeral Home, Main Street and Gorham Place, Trumbull.
