Of The Best-Laid Plans
To the Editor:
I am writing in support of Tom, Lisa, and Ted Gissen in regard to their post-prom party. These kindhearted folks opened their hearts and their home to our kids. I felt completely comforted knowing that my son would be at the Gissensâ home after the prom. These students were looking forward to a night of camaraderie and fellowship as they ended their years at NHS. An unfortunate twist of events and uninvited guests turned the evening into a nightmare for everyone, but especially for the Gissen family.
I would like to extend my gratitude to the Danbury New-Times for telling the story in its entirety. While The Bee left out important and pertinent information, the News-Times chose to publish all the facts. I hope that you have a chance to read the article as published in the News-Times.
The News-Times stated that:
1. The Gissens contacted the police department in advance of the party.
2. You will see that the invitation clearly stated the rules; no alcohol/drugs permitted (a copy of the invitation was included), no one would be allowed to leave (so they would not be able to return with any form of contraband), that keys would be checked in and no one would be allowed in after 1 am.
3. You would have read that the Gissens informed their neighbors of the planned party. The Gissen family did all the right things to ensure a safe, legal gathering.Â
I hope that if any of us ever find ourselves on the wrong side of a situation, that the good people of Newtown will take the time to find out the facts before making inaccurate assumptions and allegations.
