Insights On Russian Avant-Garde Design
FAIRFIELD â Diana Mille, PhD, the director of The Thomas J. Walsh Art Gallery at Fairfield University, will present a free lecture, âRussian Avant-Garde: Costume and Stage Design,â on Wednesday, February 4, at 12:30 pm. The one-hour program will consider the groundbreaking development of Russian stage and costume design from 1913 to 1935. Art of the pre-Bolshevik theater and works by Russian émigré artists who designed sets and costumes for many western European and American productions will be featured.
Those attending the lecture will also be able to view the galleryâs current exhibition, âA World of Stage: Russian Costume and Stage Design from The George Riabov Collection of Russian Art.â The gallery is within the universityâs Quick Center for the Arts. Admission is $5; call 203-254-4000 extension 2969 for additional information.
