Volunteer Center Seeks Holiday Assistance
The Volunteer Center of Western Connecticut in Danbury offers opportunities to volunteer in surrounding communities, and facilitates community needs. Current opportunities include the following holiday needs:
Adopt a family or individual this holiday season. Provide food, clothing, toys, and/or gift cards to a family. Call The Volunteer Center at 797-1154 for further information. Gift cards can also be mailed directly to The Volunteer Center, 58 Division Street, Danbury CT 06810 for distribution.
Winter coat gift cards are needed for 20 middle school children (15 boys and five girls) who currently do not have proper outerwear. These children attend a special program in Danbury. If possible, a new book for these children would also be appreciated.
Toys for Christmas â new or lightly used â for distribution at the 12th annual Santaâs Workshop in downtown Danbury, December 20. Games, new puzzles, dolls, Lego or other building sets, toy cars, bikes, electronic games/systems, arts and crafts, and items for infants to early teens are needed. Items should not be wrapped.
Gift wrappers are needed December 12 to 24, at the Danbury Mall, during the hours of 10 am to 8 pm, for three-hour shifts, as a benefit for a local nonprofit agency. Volunteers under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
Holiday Goodie Bag items are needed for 40 preschoolers and 25 toddlers as part of a family resource centerâs program. They are in need of small age-appropriate items for the children.
Large Nativity Set and hanging Christmas decorations are needed to decorate an upcoming Santaâs Workshop.
Call 797-1154 for more information on these and other opportunities, or visit the website at volunteerdanbury.org.
