Police Plan Sobriety Checkpoint
For This Weekend
In the police departmentâs continuing effort to keep drunk and drugged drivers off local roads, police plan to conduct another sobriety checkpoint this weekend.
Police plan to hold the checkpoint on an unspecified local road on the night of Saturday, August 25, and early morning hours of Sunday, August 26, according to Sergeant Christopher Vanghele.
Seven patrol officers and a sergeant will participate in the event.
Each motorist passing in either direction past the checkpoint will be stopped and briefly interviewed to determine whether they are driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. While stopped, motorists also will be checked for various motor vehicle violations.
Three-quarters of the police overtime costs for the enforcement project will be covered by grant money.
