With Far-Reaching Benefits

WOODBURY — The 10th Annual New Morning Ice Cream Social will be here before you know it.

The annual benefit for Safe Haven Shelter will return on Friday, June 26, from 4 to 7 pm, at New Morning Natural & Organic, 738 Main Street South in Woodbury. New this year will be full tent coverage, so the event will be even more comfortable whether rain or shine.

A donation of $5 gets visitors a naturally delicious sundae, with their choice of organic vanilla, mint chip, chocolate ice cream or mango sorbet or Soy Delicious. Toppings galore. For $1 more, throw it on a fresh baked fudge brownie. One hundred percent of all donations go to Safe Haven, which provides free emergency shelter and services for victims of domestic violence in greater Woodbury.

In addition to the sundaes, entertainment will be provided by improv comedian Larry Hunt (a/k/a The International Masque Man), who will be performing from 4:30 to 5:15, and singer-songwriter Doug Mahard with his band Ragged jeans, playing original adult contemporary folk music from 5:30 to 6:30.

Free organic mini-facials and hand/forearm treatments will be offered all evening by Adivasi Body, Mod.Skin Labs and Mind/Body Works. Please registration is required for this activity; call 263-0673 or visit NewMorn.com to sign up.

Also this year, sample fresh local milk from Arethusa Dairy in Litchfield — complete with cookies for dunking by Sandy Hook resident and award winning cookie guru Liz Gilbert — and visit with two of their gorgeous calves.

Until the afternoon of the event New Morning is collecting monetary contributions and donations of toiletries, consumable supplies, and all sizes of new pajamas and sweat suits for women and children.

Finally, New Morning is running a free raffle to win a Jamis Trail X1 bicycle (courtesy of Honest Tea). Raffle tickets are available at the store.
