Local Charity To Bring Safe Water To Victims Of El Salvador Earthquake
The World Help Through Technology Foundation (WHT) of Newtown is collecting donations to help the victims of the El Salvador earthquake and mudslide.
WHT representatives are preparing to fly to El Salvador this weekend to aid the victims of last Fridayâs disaster. Traveling with AmeriCares, World Help is planning to install at least five emergency water units in primary locations.
âWe implore you to support us in helping the victims of El Salvador with your immediate donations,â said Harvey Sellner, WHT founder.
More than 600 dead have been recovered in the quake and mudslide; disaster relief officials expect the death toll to exceed 2,000.
World Help is a public 501(C) 3 charity whose mission is to save lives by providing safe water to hospitals, clinics, schools, and villages in underdeveloped countries and disaster sites worldwide. World Help was founded in 1995 by Mr Sellner, a retired engineer who lives in Newtown, and has frequently operated in conjunction with Newtown Rotary Club members on projects around the world.
World Help designed a water purification system using ultraviolet light, which makes it possible to take existing water from contaminated sources and purify it. Sometimes water is piped to locations such as disaster sites where no running water is available.
World Help joined forces with AmeriCares in February 2000 following the Venezuelan mudslide disaster, which took the lives of well over 30,000 men, women, and children. World Help brought the water, the most crucial element of survival. To date, the organization has installed systems in Haiti, Honduras, Colombia, Brazil, Venezuela, Jamaica, Guatemala, Mexico, Armenia, Somalia, and Ghana.
Contributions may be sent to World Help Foundation, 255 South Main Street, PO Box 500, Newtown, CT 06776. For additional information call the World Help Foundation at 800/814-2500.
