Dental Associates Is Already Planning For Its

6th Annual Halloween Candy Buyback Program

Dental Associates will repeat its highly successful Halloween Candy Buyback Program for the sixth straight year on November 4. In Newtown, the office at 11 Church Hill Road will be accepting candy from 11 am to 1 pm.

Since tooth decay is the most common disease found in children, Dental Associates is putting its money where its mouth in helping parents get some of the extra Halloween candy out of their home. When a parent brings their child to one of Dental Associates’ four offices, the Tooth Fairy and Dr Smile E. Fox will weigh their unopened, leftover Halloween candy and buy it back for $2 per pound, up to a maximum of ten pounds.

At Dental Associates, where the local Candy Buyback program originated, The Dental Associates Tooth Fairy has bought back approximately 2.5 tons of candy — almost $10,000 worth. Children and their parents visit one of Dental Associates local offices and leave without the cavity-causing candy, but instead with the sweetest treat of all: a little extra money and a great feeling about visiting the dentist’s office.

“This event gets larger every year,” stated pediatric dentist Dr John Iwasaki. “The Candy Buyback is important to us because we feel we have a responsibility to our patients and communities to promote good dental health practices. By continually having this event, it shows we are committed to this goal.”

Last year more than a thousand pounds of candy was collected and Dental Associates anticipates surpassing that amount this year. The candy will be donated to various local agencies in Danbury, New Milford, Newtown, Trumbull, and to Operation Gratitude, an organization that sends care packages to our soldiers overseas.

Other locations and times for the November 4 Halloween Candy Buyback are as follows: Danbury (19 Padanaram Road; 748-8055), 8 to 10 am; Trumbull (160 Hawley Lane; 380-0660), noon to 2 pm; and New Milford (1 Aspetuck Avenue; 860-355-4138), 3 to 5 pm.
