Rotaryâs Recent Guests Offered Updates From LLS
The Rotary Club of Newtown hosted Kristen Angell and Ginny Chion, who represented the Connecticut chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS), at the clubâs meeting on Monday, August 20, at The Inn at Newtown.
LLS supports research dedicated to finding a cure and developing life-prolonging treatments for the more than one million individuals in the United States living with or in remission from leukemia, Hodgkinâs lymphoma, non-Hodgkinâs lymphoma, and myeloma. Of every dollar raised by LLS, 78 cents goes to research nationally. The Connecticut chapter does even better, the women told the group, forwarding 82 cents of every dollar donated to leading researchers and research facilities. At nearby Yale University, five researchers are directly funded by the Connecticut LLS chapter.
Additionally, LLS provides life-enhancing patient services, programs, support, and patient financial aid through its chapter offices and hosts numerous telephone and web education programs featuring the latest research, treatment, and clinical trials findings from medical experts. TV star Miranda Cosgrove of iCarly currently serves as LLS National Ambassador, and the Light the Night Walk is an important LLS fundraiser.
This yearâs local walk is scheduled for Saturday, September 29, beginning at 5 pm, at Newtown Youth Academy. To find out how you can help, contact the LLS CT Chapter main office in Wilton at 203-665-1400 or tits branch office in Meriden at 203-379-0450 or online at www.lls.org/ct.
