Exposure To Photography At WAA

WASHINGTON — A new exhibit devoted entirely to photography is on view at the Washington Art Association through February 25.

“3X Exposure” features the vividly conveyed work of photographers Lee Fearnside, Wayne Greene and Patricia Mazza. The exhibit of black and white photography offers the artists’ deeply personal views on a variety of subjects.

Lee Fearnside’s nude self-portraits are a product of need and accessibility. As the artist explains, “I was uncomfortable with myself and with the camera’s gaze upon my figure. Looking at the images, I felt disassociated from my body. Me the photographer and me the image were two separate entities. Yet they were incorporated because I held the shutter cord.”

Commercial photographer Wayne Greene is a graduate of Goddard College, and has studied with Larry Fink of Yale University. Over the course of 25 years, Mr Greene has photographed a wide variety of subjects; rock bands to visiting foreign presidents have been among his studies. His interest in photography began in childhood, and formally progressed as an art form in 1963.

Patricia Mazza’s work represents short films on paper, celebrating the rituals of family. Her unique viewpoint has earned her extensive showings throughout the Northeast. Ms Mazza’s solo exhibitions have been seen at Abfab Gallery in Philadelphia and New York City’s SoHo Photo Gallery and Visual Arts Alumni Gallery.

For six years she worked as a Metropolitan Museum of Art photographer of museum collections and special exhibitions. Her efforts can be seen in the museum’s publication’s, most notably The Glory of Byzantium and Medieval Enamels of Limoge.

Washington Art Association’s gallery is in Bryan Memorial Plaza, Route 47 in Washington Depot. Gallery hours are Monday through Saturday, 10 am to 5 pm; and Sunday, 2 to 5 pm. For additional information, call 860/868-2878.
