Join WSO In Getting Caribbean Vibe At Mattatuck Museum
WATERBURY â For anyone who has ever had a desire to make music on the steel drums, Waterbury Symphony Orchestra (WSO) and the Mattatuck Museum are teaming up to offer a steel pan workshop. The workshop will be on Saturday, November 10, from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm.
The steel pan is an instrument indigenous to the Caribbean. The workshop, led by composer Debbie Teason, is free and open to both adults and children.
Showcased at the workshop will be performers from Saint Lukeâs Episcopal Church Steel Band in New Haven. The energetic players will perform some of their most exciting repertoire for the first half of the program. Following the performance, workshop participants will be invited to try their hand at steel pan playing.
Ms Teason is currently working on a musical composition for the steel pan that will have its debut at Waterbury Symphony Orchestraâs âWinter Surprise Concertâ on March 2 and 3, 2002. (Ms Teasonâs workshop will be repeated in February.)
To register or for further information, call Christine Jewell at the museum 203-753-0381 extension 11. The museum is at 144 West Main Street, opposite the green in Waterbury.
