The first annual 2006 Newtown Road Race has a new logo â thanks to Chris McGowan.
The Reed Intermediate School sixth-grader put together the best T-shirt design out of some 20 entrants and was awarded the $25 prize last week in a gathering of race and Newtown Youth Services officials.
The 5k road race and Fun Run â benefiting Newtown Youth Services â will be held Saturday, September 2, starting at 9 am. The course is officially sanctioned by the United States Track and Field Association.
The road race committee, led by co-directors Jen Madej and Steve Meeker, hope to entice some 50 runners to compete. At present, they are actively seeking local businesses and corporations to sponsor the event.
With a Diamond sponsorship ($10,000+) the race will be named after the company and the company logo will appear on all advertising, t-shirts, race day banners, mile-markers and water stations, the Newtown Youth Services Labor Day parade float, and the website.
With a Gold sponsorship ($1,001 to $5,000), the company logo will appear on the race t-shirt and the website and individual acknowledgement will appear in media promotions. With a Silver sponsorship ($251 to $1,000), the company logo will appear on the race t-shirt and web site. And for a Bronze sponsorship ($100 to $250), the company logo will appear on the website.
All sponsorships come with varying degrees of race entry discounts.
Newtown Youth Services serves the greater Newtown area, including Bethel and Brookfield, and works to provide the community with resources that help kids and their families succeed â with programs such as Job Banks, Momsâ Groups, substance abuse counseling and awareness programs.
