DANBURY â The annual Regional Child Advocacy Center Dinner-Dance and Silent Auction will be held Saturday, March 31, at The Amber Room. Proceeds will go directly to strengthen families to prevent child abuse throughout the 14-town area served by the agency. Services to clients are free.
Barbara Phillips of Newtown is president of the agencyâs board of directors, which sponsors this annual event. Tickets are $75 per person.
A six-day, five-night stay in a timeshare in Manhattan, a lap top computer, and an original sketch by Bruce Degen for his anniversary publishing of The Magic School Bus will be among the items that will be available in this yearâs auction.
Silent auction items will include tickets to a variety of sports events, area bus tickets, Carnegie Hall tickets, a variety of jewelry items, baskets of toiletries, a wine basket, gardening supplies, a quilt, a chance to be guest DJ on 98Q, and many gift certificates from area businesses.
There will be dancing to live music by Clark Eno and his orchestra and more auction items to bid on throughout the evening and dinner.
The Child Advocacy Center is a member agency of the United Way of Western Connecticut and is otherwise funded by this dinner-dance, along with grants, state-city-town contracts, and donations. Families are referred by the Department of Children and Families, public schools, other agencies, and individuals.
The agency has a variety of programs that offer help to families at risk, including a Parent Aide program, a Volunteer Mentor Program, Teams, and several educational programs for parents and grandparents who are raising children.
Programs are offered in English, Spanish, and Portuguese. Staff members are professionals in the field of abuse prevention and treatment.
