Alfred L. Koup, 83, husband of Jean (Iverson) Koup of Heritage Village, Southbury, died November 11 in River Glen Health Care Center, Southbury.
A resident of Southbury the past ten years, he previously lived in Newtown for many years and was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church where he had served as treasurer. Mr Koup was a member of the Newtown Country Club.
He was born in Meshoppen, Penn., on July 24, 1922, a son of Floyd and Myrtle (Bacon) Koup and graduated from Meshoppen High School. During World War II, Mr Koup served in the US Navy.
He was a graduate of Cornell University, Class of 1946, with a degree in engineering. For 35 years, until his retirement, Mr Koup was an engineer for Sikorsky Aircraft in Stratford.
In addition to his wife, Mr Koup is survived by two sons, Dr Thomas Koup and his wife, Beth, of Yorba Linda, Calif., and Dr Richard Koup and his wife, Charla, of Washington, D.C.; and a daughter, Judy Monahan and her husband, Frank, of Sparta, N.J. Four grandchildren, Douglas Koup, Kathryn Monahan, Brian Koup and Sean Monahan, also survive him. A daughter, Nancy Koup, predeceased him.
A memorial service will be held at 11 am, Saturday, November 19, in the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown. Private burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Bridgeport.
