BROOKFIELD â The Country Players of Brookfield will present the music of Mestizo Manta, a group of native Peruvian musicians, as the second of a four-part concert series offered in addition to the current theatre season. The group will be performing at Country Playersâ theatre on Saturday, May 6.
Mestizo Manta joined together to cultivate Andean music from Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador and other neighboring countries of the mountainous Cordillera de Los Andes in South America. The melodies played are faithful to predominate Indian heritage from Northern Argentina, which formed the domain of the great Inca empire.
The group performs using native instruments such as the quena (flute), the zamponas (panpipes), bomba (drums), shachas and palo de lluvia (rain sticks), and chakchas (seeds). Mestizo Mantaâs music is heard in several rhythms and harmonic melodies, and their skillful artistry brings the spirituality of this ancient culture to the USA.
In performances at cross-cultural events throughout Connecticut, Mestizo Mantaâs musicians have consistently received praise for their lively musical presentation style and informative commentary on South American culture.
The new concert series is sponsored in part by a grant from the Connecticut Commission on the Arts. Tickets for Mestizo Manta are $15 and are available by calling The Country Players of Brookfield at 775-0023. The concert will begin at 8 pm.
