Sponsors Lend Support To Upcoming Sprint For DARE Road Race
MONROE â On May 2, top sponsors of the Annual Kimball Group Sprint for DARE âchecked inâ with race coordinators at the Monroe Police Department to support the upcoming 16th celebration of the townâs annual 5K road race.
Title sponsor John Kimball, the owner of The Kimball Group, joined presenting sponsors Skip Wyatt, owner of Mr Handyman of Fairfield County, and Janice Snyder, branch manager of Newtown Savings Bankâs Monroe office, for the check presentation. Accepting the donations were race coordinators Barbara Masuk and Dr Paul Moyse, and Lt Brian McCauley of Monroe Police Department.Â
âOur sincere thanks and gratitude go out to these sponsors without whom this race would not be possible. Their continued commitment to our event and its cause is invaluable,â said Ms Masuk.
The annual road race, presented by Monroe Police Department, is a USATF Certified course with computerized timing. Event information and online registration forms can be found by visiting HikeTRacing.com; online registration closes May 29.
The event gets underway, rain or shine, on Sunday, June 1, 2008 at Wolfe Park, 285 Cutlerâs Farm Road.
Through the years, the Kimball Group Sprint for DARE has grown to become a family and community tradition offering opportunities to participate to every age group. In addition to the 5K road race, this yearâs event will include the timed Second Annual 5K Walk and the Dairy Queen of Monroe Kidâs Fun Run, a noncompetitive event for younger runners.
More than 30 local business sponsors, many of them ongoing supporters of the race, have once again pledged cash donations, raffle items, food and beverages. Topping the list of prizes available via a random drawing open to all 5K registrants are a mountain bike from Cycle Fitness, a four-day, three-night getaway from The Vacation Center, and a manâs watch from Swiss Army Brands.
Goodie packets and T-shirts will be offered to all participants while plenty of fresh food and beverages will be available as a post race celebration in Wolfe Park.
Every finisher in the Dairy Queen of Monroe Fun Run is a winner. All receive finisherâs medals, T-shirts, and ice cream certificates.
Last yearâs race proceeds of $7,000 were donated to benefit the DARE program and other local charities.
