DUI Arrest
DUI Arrest
At about 7:05 pm on May 27, police said they were attempting to stop motorist Kyle McCarthy, 19, of 12 Elana Lane on Philo Curtis Road in connection with a complaint about a domestic dispute, after which McCarthy engaged police in pursuit.
Police said they stopped McCarthy on Berkshire Road, after which they gave him field sobriety tests. Police said they charged McCarthy with driving under the influence and with engaging police in pursuit.
Police released McCarthy on $65 bail for a June 12 court appearance.
Parking Lot
Police report that motorist Kelly Burch, 21, of 41 Engleside Terrace, who was driving a 2009 Toyota Matrix hatchback at about 2:34 pm on May 23, was backing out of a parking space in a parking lot on Glen Road in Sandy Hook Center, when the Toyota struck a 2009 Audi A-4 sedan, which was being driven out of the parking lot by Erik Cobuzzi, 20, Brookfield. There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement.
Sexual Assault
Police said that on the morning of May 28, they responded to the Stop & Shop supermarket at Sand Hill Plaza at 228 South Main Street after receiving a report that a man had grabbed two females there.
Newtown police said that Monroe police located the man in question in Monroe. Newtown police charged Kevin McCarthy, 20, of 28 Bonnie Brae Drive with two counts of fourth-degree sexual assault.
Police said that due to his behavior after his arrest, they also charged McCarthy with third-degree criminal mischief.
Police said they held McCarthy on $1,000 bail for a May 29 court appearance.
Multiple Charges
Police said they responded to Botsford about 9:42 pm on May 24 after learning of a dispute, and then arrested Robert Pixley, 31, of 48 Bears Hill Road on three warrants on multiple charges stemming from past incidents.
The various charges lodged against Pixley include possession of narcotics, violation of probation, driving under the influence, making a false statement, driving an unregistered vehicle, driving with a suspended license, failure to have automotive insurance, and misuse of a marker plate, according to police.
After arrest processing, police released Pixley on $20,000 bail for court appearances.
DUI Arrest
At about 7:13 pm on May 27, police responded to the area near the Main Street/Church Hill Road intersection to investigate a report of an erratic driver.
After locating the vehicle in question, police stopped it to investigate. Police said they charged motorist Temenujka Ready, 43, of Shelton with driving under the influence.
Following processing, police released Ready on $100 bail for a June 12 court appearance.
DUI Accident
UPDATE: The Newtown Bee received information in January 2020 that this case was dismissed in 2013.
At about 12:19 am on May 26, motorist Matthew Jones, 21, of 10 Mountain Laurel Lane was driving a 1997 Honda Accord coupe northward near 348 South Main Street in the southbound lane, police said.
At that time, motorist Karen Lee, 35, of Trumbull was driving a 2010 Honda Accord sedan with two passengers southward in the southbound lane, police said.
The two cars were then involved in a low-speed head-on crash, police said.
The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps evaluated the people involved in the accident, but they all refused medical transport, police said.
Botsford volunteer firefighters and Monroe police also responded to the accident.
A section of South Main Street was closed to traffic for 45 minutes as police investigated the accident.
Police said they charged Jones with driving under the influence and with failure to drive to the right. Jones was released on $100 bail for a June 12 court appearance.

Sandy Hook Collision
A two-vehicle accident occurred at the intersection of Wasserman Way and the ramps for Exit 11 of Interstate 84 at about 6 pm on May 25.
In that incident, motorist Alan Gentrup, 47, of 21 Head Oâ Meadow Road, who was driving a 2003 Ford F-250 pickup truck, struck the rear end of a 2006 Subaru Forester SUV driven by Wilma Segur, 54, of Danbury, police said.
There were no injuries. Police said Gentrup received a written warning for following too closely.
Cedar Hill Road
At about 10:28 pm on May 22, motorist Michael E. Daubert, Jr, 16, of 130 Castle Hill Road, was driving a 2002 Hyundai Elantra sedan eastward near 45 Cedar Hill Road, when the auto went off the road and struck some bushes and a tree, police said.
Daubert was not injured. Police said they gave Daubert an infraction for making an improper turn.

Sandy Hook Accident
A two-car accident occurred at the intersection of Berkshire Road and Bennetts Bridge Road about 11:13 pm on May 27.
Police said that motorist Megan Thomas, 17, of 89 Great Ring Road was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier sedan westward on Bennetts Bridge Road and then attempted to pull out onto Berkshire Road, when the Chevrolet collided with a 1999 Plymouth Neon coupe being driven on Berkshire Road by motorist Guy Wasdo, 58, of Danbury.
There were no injuries. Police said Thomas received an infraction for failure to grant the right of way. Police said Wasdo received an infraction for driving an unregistered vehicle.
Butterfield Road
Motorist Daryl Yuan, 51, of 57 Butterfield Road was driving a 2010 Ford Taurus sedan southward near 17 Butterfield Road about 7 pm on May 24, when the auto veered off the right road shoulder, struck a guardpost and then rolled down an embankment, police said.
Yuan was not injured. Police said they issued Yuan a written warning for making a restricted turn.
South Main Street
Motorist Brian Gleissner, 47, of Woodbury was driving a 2006 Suzuki Grand Vitara SUV southward near 113 South Main Street about 5:50 pm on May 24, when he slowed for traffic conditions, after which the Suzuki was struck from behind by southbound motorist Brian Engelke, 30, of 9 Grays Plain Road, who was driving a 2011 Nissan Altima sedan, according to police.
There were no injuries. Engelke received a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, police report.
Walnut Tree Hill Road
Motorist Gavin Scallon, 17, of 6 Farm Field Ridge Road was driving a 2002 Saturn SL-1 sedan near 76 Walnut Tree Hill Road at about 8:30 pm on May 20, when its windshield was damaged when the auto collided with a tree section that had fallen onto the street, police report. Scallon was not injured. Police took no enforcement.
Sedan Vs Deer
Motorist Kevin Keappock, 33, of Flagler Beach, Fla., was driving a 2012 Kia Optima sedan southward near 303 Berkshire Road at about 8:24 pm on May 20, when a deer ran onto the street, resulting in a collision, police report. Keappock was not injured. Police took no enforcement.
I-84 Crash
State police report a three-vehicle accident on eastbound Interstate 84 about one-half mile west of Exit 11 at about 4:19 pm on May 24.
In that incident, motorist John Gouveia, 24, of Ansonia, who was driving a 2005 Mazda RX-8, struck the rear end of a 2006 Nissan Altima driven by Michael Sullivan, 32, of Waterbury, state police said.
That impact pushed the Nissan into the rear end of a 2008 Mazda CX-9 driven by Kenneth Weigand, 44, of White Plains, N.Y., state police said. The Mazda CX-9 was carrying four passengers.
There were no injuries. Enforcement information was not available.
Highway Accident
Three vehicles collided on eastbound Interstate 84 about three-quarters of a mile west of Exit 9 about 5:55 pm on May 24.
State police said motorist Carisa Marina, 21, of Punta Gorda, Fla., who was driving a 2006 Suzuki, struck the rear end of a 2003 Honda Odyssey minivan driven by Robert Houle, 48, of 6 Meadow Woods Lane, pushing the Honda into the rear end of a 2003 Acura TL sedan driven by Tammy Ovesny, 52, of Shelton.
There were no injuries. Enforcement information was not available.
Interstate Mishap
At about 10:45 am on May 22, motorist Matthew Swigart, 19, of 58 Alberts Hill Road, who was driving a 1999 Honda Civic, was entering the Exit 10 on-ramp for westbound Interstate 84, when Swigart lost control of the auto and struck some guardcabling, according to state police. Swigart was not injured. State police said he was traveling too fast for conditions.
I-84 Deer
State police report that about 5:16 am on May 19, motorist Joseph Hart, 52, of New Fairfield was driving a 2007 Honda Accord on eastbound Interstate 84, near Exit 11, when the Honda struck a deer, heavily damaging the auto. Hart was not injured.
Truck Vs Truck
At about 5:05 pm on May 17, motorist Philip Kurcon, 50, of Chelmsford, Mass., who was driving a 2010 Ford F-150 pickup truck eastward on Interstate 84 near Exit 9, slowed for traffic conditions and was then struck from behind by motorist Nicholas Cabral, 32, of Bethel, who was driving a 2012 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, state police said.
There were no injuries. State police said they verbally warned Cabral for following too closely.
Theft From Vehicle
Sometime between 1:30 and 5:30 pm on May 28, someone stole unspecified items from a motor vehicle that was parked on Maltbie Road, police report. Police ask anyone with knowledge of the crime to contact investigating Officer William Chapman at the police station at 203-426-5841.
Coupe Vs Pole
Police said that motorist Richard Ciardi, 68, of 17 Housatonic Drive was driving a 1996 Saturn SL-2 coupe northward on Walnut Tree Hill Road, near Acorn Drive, at about 12:34 pm on May 24, when the auto drifted off the road and struck a utility pole.
Police said that Ciardi explained to them that he was distracted by the actions of a nearby deer when the crash occurred.
Ciardi was not injured. Police said they issued Ciardi an infraction for making a restricted turn.
Chevy Hits Pole
Motorist Sarah Connor, 18, of 132 Hattertown Road was driving a 2008 Chevrolet Impala sedan southward near 129 Huntingtown Road at about 1:15 pm on May 20, when she lost control of the auto and it struck a utility pole, police report.
Connor was not injured. Connor received a written warning for making a restricted turn, police said.
Lexus Vs Dog
Motorist Richard Billy, 56, of 26 Oak Ridge Drive, who was driving a 2004 Lexus ES-330 sedan northward near 123 Huntingtown Road at about 9:40 am on May 28, encountered a dog that had entered the roadway, police said. The car and the dog collided, police said.
The dog died, police said. Billy was not injured. Police said they verbally warned the dogâs owner for allowing a dog to roam.
