Newtown High School’s baseball team lost in the first round of the Class LL State Tournament on Tuesday afternoon. No. 22 NHS fell 4-1 at No. 11 Fitch, ending an overall strong season for the Nighthawks. Newtown went 12-8 in the regular season and Fitch was 15-5 overall. The Nighthawks earned the No. 4 seed and a home game in the first round of the South-West Conference Tournament but was also knocked out of that tourney in the opening round, in a 6-2 defeat to Notre Dame-Fairfield. The Nighthawks won 12 of their first 17 games before finishing the campaign on a five-game slide, including the two postseason games.
