Three Injured In Toddy Hill Crash

By Andrew Gorosko

Botsford firefighters worked for an hour to extricate a front-seat teenage passenger from a destroyed a two-door 2000 Ford Mustang, which collided with a utility pole at the intersection of Toddy Hill Road and Still Hill Road at about 7 pm February 24.

Based on two witnesses’ accounts, motorist Konstantin V. Pakhomov, 18, of Stamford, who was driving the Ford southward on Toddy Hill Road, entered the northbound lane and passed the those two southbound witnesses’ vehicles in a no-passing area, police said.

As the Ford was reentering the southbound lane after passing the two autos, it went out of control and rotated 180 degrees, slid off the northbound lane, and then collided with a utility pole, striking the pole with the passenger door of the car, police said.

Pakhomov and rear-seat passenger Thomas Yacko, 17, of 22 Hyvue Drive, were able to get out of the auto, police said.

Teenage front-seat passenger Andrew Cabral of 168 Huntingtown Road, however, was trapped inside the vehicle.

Botsford firefighters spent an hour in working to free Cabral from the crumpled wreckage with extrication tools. Thirty Botsford firefighters responded to the accident, said Botsford Second Assistant Fire Chief Wayne Ciaccia.

Firefighters cut the roof off the Ford, as well as disassembled other parts of the auto, to remove Cabral from the wreckage. It was a very difficult and complex extrication, Ciaccia said.

Ambulance volunteers transported all three vehicle occupants to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries. Cabral was admitted to the hospital for treatment of his lower body injuries.

Following the accident, police closed down a section of Toddy Hill Road to investigate.

The accident remains under investigation and enforcement action is expected.
