Support Local Businesses

To the Editor:

Over the past week I have heard about two dinner functions for Newtown Schools being held at restaurants outside Newtown. One event, the Head O’ Meadow dinner dance held early 2009, and the other a sporting event for the high school.

While I appreciate all the time and effort it takes to plan these events I think more effort should be used to host them in Newtown. In these unprecedented times when businesses are closing, people are losing their jobs and our taxes are rising it is time for our school system, PTA, and volunteer organizations to support those businesses we look to support us. These business will struggle, possible even close, without our support.

Please join with me in asking our town and schools to support our local businesses. By doing this we all benefit.
