NYS Talent Show, which was postponed due to the storm, will now be held on Friday, June 8, 7 pm, Reed Intermediate School. Tickets are $5 for adults (13 and older) and $3 for children (12 and under). Tickets are available at NYS and will be available at the door.

Gail Smith Nominations: The Gail Smith Awards Ceremony will be held on Monday, June 25, at 7 pm, at the Booth Library. Three awards will be given: one to an adult, one to a youth, and one to a business. Criteria for nomination are based on outstanding contribution and leadership for the betterment of services, facilities, and recognition of Newtown’s youth. Nomination forms are available at the library, Drug Center, and at Newtown Youth Services. Ballots must be received by noon on Friday, June 8.

Cullens Nature Camp: Would you like to learn more about insects, frogs, the weather and water, plants and other fun outdoor activities? Like to work on nature crafts and keep a journal?

You will have two opportunities to learn these and so many more interesting things at the Cullens Nature Camp on Taunton Lake Road. The camp will be offered two different weeks: June 25–29 and July 9–13. Students who have finished grades K through 2 will meet from 9 to 11 am and those who have finished grades 3 through 5 will meet from 11:30 to 1:30 pm.

Fee for the camp is $75. This is a very popular camp so don’t wait too long to register as space is limited. To register call NYS.

HSYAB’s final meeting of the year will be Monday, June 4.

Sibshops for children with a special needs sibling meets Monday, June 4, from 5 to 6 pm.

Children of Divorce will meet on Monday, June 4, from 6 to 7 pm.

Support Groups

Caregivers/Grandparents’ Group — The Second Time Around: Raising Your Children’s Children is an ongoing support program that meets Wednesdays from noon to 1:30 pm. There is no fee.

Hope and Support meets Mondays, from 7:30 to 9:30 pm. Parents or caregivers with questions or concerns about a child’s possible or confirmed substance use or abuse are welcome to attend this group. The Hope Group will not meet on school holidays, school breaks, or snow days.

NAMI Support Group is for relatives and caregivers of the mentally ill. Join in a confidential and supportive setting to discuss and share information, resources, and fellowship twice a month. The group meets on the first and third Monday of each month from 9:30 to 10:30 am at NYS. For further information, contact Laura Miller Kurtz, 313-0412.

Autism Support Group meets the first Thursday of each month at 7 pm.
