Garden Club Greens For The Holidays
Garden Club Greens For The Holidays
The Garden Club of Newtown will hold its Annual Greens Sale on Saturday, December 1, from 9 am to 2 pm, at Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street (at the flagpole).
This annual fundraiser is in the minds of the members of the club all year as they dry plants from their gardens and collect pinecones and other items to use in decorating wreaths, swags and table arrangements for the holiday season. Holly and other fresh greens from members will also be incorporated into the designs.
New to the sale this year is the clubâs latest project, a cookbook with recipes from members and special friends, called From Flower Buds to Taste Buds. At $10 each, the books make great gifts, and will also be offered already wrapped for holiday giving. There will also be a bake sale featuring recipes from the cookbook.
Barbara Glass of Cinderellaâs Closet will be presenting her unique pins. Primarily festive and holiday designs of flowers, the pins feature velvets, beaded fruits, feathers, leaves and berries and can be worn on clothing or hats.
Books and color wheels by noted Newtown author and gardener Sydney Eddison will also be available for sale. (Ms Eddison will not be in attendance at the sale but the garden club has secured a number of signed copies of her books for the sale.)
The Garden Club of Newtown uses profits from this fundraiser to contribute to the community in many ways including scholarships for Newtown High School graduates through Newtown Scholarship Association. The club also maintains the gardens at the Matthew Curtiss House and the Blue Star Highway Memorial Marker.
Additional information is available from garden club member Ginnie Carey (270-1108).
