Merryall Is Beginning Its 49th Season

NEW MILFORD — Merryall Center for the Arts, which has been providing wonderful entertainment at reasonable prices for 49 years, began its schedule of performances for summer 2000 on Saturday, May 6. The season will continue through September 16, with a wide variety of talent represented. From a dual piano concert to steel drums to a classical Irish night, it is a season that can be enjoyed by everyone.

After each performance the audience will again be treated to the traditional “meet the performers” reception with complimentary wine, soft drinks and hors d’oeuvres.

Tickets for individual performances are $15. Tickets for the season are $75 (single) and $150 (family). Tickets may be purchased at the door on the night of performance or by calling Merryall to reserve in advance at 860/354-7264.

While the center hosted a season-opening cocktail reception on May 6, Pan Caribe Steel Band, back by popular demand, will open the season in a Latin mode on Saturday, May 13, at 8:30 pm. The audience will learn some history and heritage of Trinidad and the Caribbean while enjoying traditional and contemporary calypso, salsa and soca music.

On Saturday, May 20, at 8:30 pm, flutist Rhonda Larson will grace the Merryall stage. Formerly with The Paul Winter Consort, the Grammy Award-winning flutist has been hailed as having “the most alluring flute sound on this planet.” Admission to Ms Larson’s concert is free thanks to a grant from the New Milford Commission on the Arts.

Merryall’s season continues with Themselves, June 3, a traditional Irish music group; June 10, vocalist Vikki True and pianist Mark Kelso, with jazz standards to African folk songs; June 17, humor with Charles Adkins, MD, who will present “Stress Relief;” and June 24, Andrew Harp on Trumpet and Jennifer Sayre on harp.

Details on the full schedules of July, August and September can be found in Merryall’s season brochure, available free of charge by calling 860/354-7264.
