Making Life Better

To the Editor:

Late Saturday night a tremendous branch of a tree in front of the house next to mine came smashing down and was long enough to block traffic on Main Street.

Soon after, I noticed members of the highway department cutting it up and clearing the road. It was a rainy and horrible night and I was glad not to be out in it. By Sunday morning the road was clear. The highway department guys are always there when we need them, it seems.

As we get closer to winter, and the snow starts falling, we’ll be seeing and hearing them more and more as they plow our roads. When our snowstorms come at night, I can see the snow falling, but I can also hear the plows as they make their way down Main Street. And I know that, by morning, the roads will be clear.

So, highway department guys, I thank you for your work. I thank you for getting up in the middle of the night to make my life better and easier.
