Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue Deputy Chief Ryan Clark visited the campers at Safety Town Camp on Wednesday, July 9. While there, Clark put on all of his gear to show the campers there is no reason to be afraid of the gear that firefighters wear while responding to emergencies.

After a brief demonstration inside, Clark and the campers headed outside to check out one of Sandy Hook’s fire engines.

Clark is the first firefighter to visit Safety Town Camp of four total sessions.

Clark showed the campers all the cabinets and tools on the truck, including this bucket of Speedy Dry that firefighters use to absorb oil or gasoline that might spill or leak following a motor vehicle collision.
Clark then showed campers a large, bright light that firefighters use at night to illuminate work spaces. He also showed the campers a pick axe, air packs, and several hundred feet of hose.
After Clark showed the campers the engine, he let the campers explore the back of the truck where firefighters sit. From left: Andrew Gudonis, Benny Ruben, and Wake Clark.
