Creativity On Display At Affinity Esports Minecraft Builders Camp
Children ages 7-15 teamed up and tapped into their creative side in Affinity Esports’ Minecraft Builders Camp from August 11 to August 15.
The camp focused on the hit sandbox game Minecraft, where players explore a procedurally generated world entirely made up of voxels. With hundreds of different blocks to use, Minecraft is used as a creative tool for people of all ages.
With Affinity Esports’ mission to develop happier and healthier gaming experiences for people all ages, the organization’s recent Minecraft camp served as the perfect outlet for kids to connect with others their age and bring their imagination to life.
The camp was open to seasoned Minecraft players or first-time builders. Campers received a different building prompt everyday, with each one designed to challenge their creativity and what they could come up with.
The first challenge on August 11 had everyone work on their own to design their dream room. The following day had everyone work in groups to design a fantasy village.
At the end of every build, the campers presented what they made to each other.
With Minecraft being the top-selling video game of all time, perhaps it is no surprise that approximately two dozen children signed up for the camp.
Affinity Esports Marketing and Communications Director Kaohom Boonyalai, who ran the Minecraft Builders Camp, said it “pretty much sold out.”
While the camp focused on Minecraft, Boonyalai said children could play other games over the course of the week.
Campers were also encouraged to take plenty of breaks. This meant getting off the computer and doing another activity, whether that meant playing a board game or eating lunch together outside.
Boonyalai said Minecraft is one of her favorite games, and that she used to coach Affinity Esports’ Bed Wars team. Bed Wars is a popular Minecraft mini-game where players team up and defend their bed against other players.
According to Boonyalai, her coaching experience made her familiar with a lot of the kids who come to Affinity Esports and play Minecraft.
Regardless of whatever challenge they faced, campers had a fun time working together, building to their hearts content, and making new friends.
