Blessing Planned For Little Angels Shrine
Fairfield County Catholic Cemeteries of the Diocese of Bridgeport invite readers to attend the blessing of the Little Angels Shrine on Saturday, September 6, at 11 am.
Bishop Frank Caggiano will bless the new shrine, located within Resurrection Cemetery at 208 South Main Street.
The sacred space will be available to bury the remains of a miscarriage, stillborn baby or infant in consecrated ground. It will also memorialize those with no remains with a plaque on a memorial wall.
The Little Angels Shrine at Resurrection Cemetery is dedicated to babies, infants, and toddlers who have gone home to God.
The consecrated ground honors the memory of all deceased children, and provides a reverent place of prayer and healing for parents and others who have experienced the death of a child.
Designed in conjunction with Canning Liturgical Arts Company, the shrine features an altar area with seats and benches for services, surrounded by 14 Carrara marble Stations of the Cross on granite platforms. Beyond that, there are five memorial walls where remains, when available, will be buried, and a plaque will be affixed to the wall. When remains are not available, a plaque honoring each child will be placed on a memorial wall at the shrine.
Services will be conducted on one Saturday each month to host a service and receive remains. There will be no charge for the service, burial, and plaques/inscriptions. Donations will be accepted to help support this sacred and healing space. The first service is planned for September 13.
Resurrection Cemetery grounds are open to the public from dawn to dusk.
