To The Editor:

My name is Keith Torreso and I am eagerly running for Newtown’s Police Commission and am asking you for your support this November, here is why.

I have been a dedicated law enforcement professional with ten years of service in Connecticut. I began my path in law enforcement with eight years of service in the United States Marine Corps. Here, I developed discipline, leadership skills and problem-solving talents, all of which are crucial to the position of Police Commission. Over the past decade I have trained for and been appointed to a variety of roles — Emergency Service Unit, Community Policing, and School Resource Officer. These experiences have shown me the positive impact that strong, collaborative relationships between law enforcement and the community can have, especially in schools where the safety and well-being of children is paramount. My dedicated to protecting and serving others with integrity is shown through the multiple honors I have received, including a Life Saving Award, Blue Mass Award and multiple Unit Citations.

I believe that an effective member of the Police Commission is not just about enforcement, but about building trust between officers and residents, creating safe spaces and understanding where the biggest problems are in Newtown. With this mindset, I will help shape a safer, stronger and more connected Newtown.

On a more personal note, I live in Sandy Hook with my wife and three children. I am an active member in the community, coaching my children in multiple Newtown-run sports programs. On our free time we love to be outside fishing, hiking, riding bikes and taking advantage of Newtown’s outdoor spaces. I hope to bring a fresh perspective to the Newtown Police Commission come November and I look forward to serving our beautiful Newtown community.
