BOARD OF FINANCE

Name: John Fletcher

Party affiliation: Democrat

Family information: Wife Jordana; children Jamison, Jackson, Hudson, and Hayden (all finally out of college); dogs Fergus and Fig.

How long have you lived in Newtown: 23 years.

1. What is the most critical issue facing Newtown today? We are fortunate to live in a town with excellent schools, low crime, beautiful open spaces and trails, nice amenities, and a rare balance of historical, residential, commercial, and rural character. A pressing issue at this point is balancing the need to invest in those areas to keep the town vibrant, with the need to be affordable for the people living in it. That was a challenge in our last budget cycle, and it remains a challenge this year.

2. What is the single most valuable skill or talent you can offer to the community? Our budgets, and the many associated issues around them, are very large and complex, and often conflicting. It takes attention to detail, combined with a high level perspective, to effectively guide and support our financial position. I have over 35 years of corporate experience working with large budgets, and working across broad teams to best manage them. That financial background, along the teamwork required to navigate the issues, is my most valuable skill.

3. If elected, how will you apply that talent or skill to best address the critical issue you identified in Question #1? The first step in contributing to the Board is to do the work to understand the financial issues and trade-offs we face. My work experience, and my term on the Board, helps with that approach — it’s part of the professional discipline I’ve gained over the years. Also, it’s necessary to be a team player — not to agree with everyone but to listen, and share positions that will ultimately arrive at the best solution. The Board jointly went through that process last cycle, and we contributed to a thoughtful budget that the town voters approved on the first referendum vote. I look forward to being able to contribute again in the next term.

1. What is the most critical issue facing Newtown today? Outside influences. Like most towns in CT, Newtown faces financial challenges. The State has reduced funding to the town and school district, rising self-insured health insurance costs and significant cost of living increases. Strict fiscal scrutiny and efficiencies are addressing the issues. I will continue to address areas that most affect Newtown voters … Schools, Streets, Security, Smart Development and Seniors!

I will use my Finance and Economics education skills, 34 years of running a law business making a payroll each week, and 20 years of Town elected official experience and 32 years of Borough elected official experience.

The voters, you are the customer.

2. What is the single most valuable skill or talent you can offer to the community? I would say my single most valuable skill or talent is Listening. Listening leads to Logic, or what is currently known as Critical Thinking. Logic leads to Leadership.

3. If elected, how will you apply that talent or skill to best address the critical issue you identified in Question #1? I currently serve and have served 16 yrs as Chair/Vice-Chair of the Board of Finance (BoF). I served four years on the Board of Selectmen with Pat Llodra and Will Rodgers. I currently serve and have served on the Borough’s Board of Burgesses for 22 years and as Warden of the Borough for 12 years. I effectively work with all to secure the best financial interests of the town. Occupation and Employer: I am a Compliance Examiner with New York Life Insurance. I have worked in the field of Compliance for 30+ years.

1. What is the most critical issue facing Newtown today? The most critical issue that we face is affordability. We all work hard to make ends meet, and we need to ensure that every tax dollar is spent efficiently and effectively. Rising costs put pressure on our families, our seniors, and our businesses. We need to keep Newtown a place where people can thrive, by being responsible with spending and transparent with decisions.

2. What is the single most valuable skill or talent you can offer to the community? The most valuable skill I offer to Newtown is my ability to analyze complex financial information and ensure accountability. With three decades in compliance and oversight, I know how to identify waste, strengthen processes, and make sure every dollar is working for taxpayers.

3. If elected, how will you apply that talent or skill to best address the critical issue you identified in Question #1? I will apply my financial and compliance expertise to carefully review budgets, identify waste, and demand accountability from every department. My career has been dedicated to protecting people’s money and ensuring transparency. I’ll bring that same dedication and determinedness to Newtown — keeping our town affordable without sacrificing the quality of our schools, first responders, or the character of our community.

Name: Amybeth Laroche

Party affiliation: Republican

Website: newtownrepublicans.org/2025-candidates-for-municipal-office/board-of-finance-2025

Family information: I am a proud mom and author raising my daughter here in Newtown, and I share my life with Steve, who has been a steady support for our family. I also come from a proud military family, which instilled in me the values of service, sacrifice, and accountability that I carry into everything I do. Those values guide me as a parent, as a professional, and as a community leader.

How long have you lived in Newtown: Two years.

Educational information: I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Business Management and Leadership, but my education did not stop there. Over the course of my career, I have completed professional training, certifications, and specialized programs that sharpened my skills in contracts, negotiations, and leadership. Just as important, I have gained valuable life experience that has shaped my perspective and my ability to solve problems. I believe college is one path, but not the only one, and I never stop learning or seeking out new opportunities to grow. This combination of formal education, professional development, and real-world experience has prepared me to serve our community with both knowledge and common sense.

Occupation and Employer: Contracts Manager and Negotiator. Works in support of US defense and maritime programs (private sector).

1. What is the most critical issue facing Newtown today? The most critical issue facing Newtown today is affordability. Families are stretched thin, seniors are worried about staying in the homes they built, and young people question whether they can put down roots here. We cannot continue down a path of rising costs and lost opportunities. The answer is fiscal discipline, accountability, and common-sense leadership, cutting waste, investing smartly in our schools and first responders, and making sure every tax dollar works for the people. Newtown should always be a place where seniors can stay, young families can grow, and every generation can thrive.

2. What is the single most valuable skill or talent you can offer to the community? The most valuable skill I bring is the ability to cut through complexity and deliver results with accountability and common sense. I have spent my career managing billions in contracts where every detail mattered and waste had real consequences. That experience taught me how to ask the right questions, dig into the data, and hold people accountable skills our town needs now more than ever.

As an author and community advocate, I’ve also learned how to communicate clearly, listen to different perspectives, and connect with families across Newtown. I live in the same realities as my neighbors’ navigating challenges of affordability, education, and safety while also respecting the seniors who built this community and deserve to thrive here. This blend of professional discipline, communication, and personal connection is the strength I offer to Newtown.

3. If elected, how will you apply that talent or skill to best address the critical issue you identified in Question #1? When elected, I will use my problem-solving skills and commitment to accountability to make affordability more than a talking point it will be a priority. Managing billion-dollar contracts taught me how to spot waste, cut costs, and keep projects on track. I will bring that same approach to Newtown by making budgets transparent, prioritizing essentials like schools and public safety, and ensuring taxpayers see value for every dollar. My approach is simple: listen, use common sense, work hard, find common ground even with those who disagree and always put people before politics. With grit, integrity, and accountability, I will fight for a stronger, more affordable Newtown where every family can succeed.

Family information: Fiancée Erin, and her daughters in Newtown schools.

How long have you lived in Newtown: Five years.

Educational information: Degrees in political science, economics and a CFP certification.

Occupation and Employer: 30 yrs in private sector and government financial management, (retired.) Currently working for the Newtown Bee in administrative support.

1. What is the most critical issue facing Newtown today? A lack of accountability. It’s been my experience over the past two years serving on the Board of Finance that there hasn’t been “a sense of urgency,” planning, transparency, and best practices weren’t considered, much less required. That’s changing, with the current Board of Finance revising guidelines on investment policy and requiring greater detail from Town departments on operational spending. As well extending the Town’s long term budget planning.

2. What is the single most valuable skill or talent you can offer to the community? “Relentless skepticism!” Seriously, I probably attend more meetings than most elected officials. If you want to know what the problems are, or how something works, you have to be willing to listen, observe, and ask tough questions about the details. Being re-elected to the BOF will enable me to continue to put that knowledge gained to use on behalf of taxpayers.

3. If re-elected, how will you apply that talent or skill to best address the critical issue you identified in Question #1? I’ll look to continue to extend and broaden the Board of Finance’s long-range planning and transparency. Newtown is under increasing financial pressure, affordability, the demand for services, and the need for balanced development are all issues we continue to face. My management experience, and work to reduce tax increases, along with the increased accountability I’ve brought to the BOF will help us to successfully meet these challenges.

1. What is the most critical issue facing Newtown today? In my view, the most pressing challenge facing Newtown today is its lack of affordability. To ensure our community thrives, we must focus on promoting thoughtful development that not only generates new revenue streams for our town but also preserves the unique character that makes Newtown special.

2. What is the single most valuable skill or talent you can offer to the community? One of my greatest strengths is my ability to listen and truly understand the concerns of our residents. In my opinion, the most effective way to connect with our community is to give them voice, to speak their minds. Responding in a respectful and productive manner is not only validating, it provides opportunities for community members to become involved in what happens in their town.

BOARD OF SELECTMEN

Name: Charlie Gardner

Party affiliation: Republican

Website: capecigardnerfornewtown.com

Family information: Married to Kathy with sons Charlie (13, attends NMS), James (11, attends RIS), Henry (6, attends SHS), and George (4).

How long have you lived in Newtown: Nine years.

Educational information: Dartmouth College, BA, 2004; Vanderbilt University Law School, JD, 2009.

Occupation and Employer: Research Fellow with the Mercatus Center (research institution).

1. What is the most critical issue facing Newtown today? Affordability. Home prices in Newtown have risen over 70% since 2020, rentals are scarce and more expensive than ever, while the last two years have seen major budget increases that have translated into steep property tax hikes. This situation hasn’t just burdened residents’ finances, it has forced some of our friends and neighbors to leave the town they loved and called home in search of available housing. Indifference to the housing crisis and the impact it has had on our fellow Newtowners shouldn’t be an option, and local control shouldn’t be an excuse for local inaction. Newtown needs leadership that is willing not only to acknowledge these issues, but to act on them with the urgency that they deserve. Separate, but no less urgent, are the issues of traffic and pedestrian safety.

2. What is the single most valuable skill or talent you can offer to the community? My professional experience in land use and zoning as an attorney and researcher, plus my work with conservation organizations and land trusts, is my most valuable skill in a town where development issues and property taxes are perennial concerns. It’s my perspective as a dad to children who are growing up, attending school, playing sports, and much more in this wonderful town that’s most important to me when it comes to thinking about our present and our future, however. It keeps me in constant contact with our teachers, coaches, administrators, volunteers, and many others who keep the town running smoothly and helps me stay in tune with residents’ concerns. It also informs an approach to governance that focuses on the long-term welfare of Newtown and its role as a place that has historically offered opportunities as a place to live and work to people from all walks of life, and that recognizes that preserving those opportunities can sometimes mean embracing change rather than opposing it. I’m an optimist about Newtown’s future, and want to see it continue to thrive for the next generation and beyond.

3. If elected, how will you apply that talent or skill to best address the critical issue you identified in Question #1? Together with First Selectman Jeff Capeci, I intend to work to expand housing options and grow our grand list through a focus on smart projects like the reuse of Fairfield Hills. We’ll encourage staff and commission members to continue their work on updating the zoning code to remove self-imposed obstacles to starter homes and on implementing the new POCD. We’ll focus on attracting businesses that will add jobs and strengthen our commercial tax base, easing the tax burden on residents while expanding amenities. We’ll also explore options for enhancing town revenue and reducing town expenses through innovative programs like the recent installation of solar panels on the Municipal Center that has reduced energy costs.

My commitment to these issues is reflected in my voting record as elected representative, not just in my rhetoric. As Legislative Council Vice Chair, I was proud to be part of the bipartisan majority of the Council along with then-Council Chair Jeff Capeci that approved seeking historic designation for the Fairfield Hills campus. I’ve also been active on traffic and pedestrian safety. On the Ordinance Committee, I assisted in drafting traffic management ordinances, and as a member of the American Rescue Plan Working Group, I advocated for using ARP funds for sidewalk expansion and infrastructure improvements that have brought lasting benefits to Newtown residents. We can continue these efforts toward walkability and make Newtown a place that’s welcoming to those on bikes and on foot as well as those behind the wheel of a car. Let’s get to work!

Name: Paul Lundquist

Party affiliation: Democrat

Website: newtownctdemocrats.org

Facebook: “Lundquist for Newtown”

Family information: My wife, Elaine; two boys, Eddie and Matt (both graduates of Newtown Public Schools); a dog (Skye); and a cat (Pinecone).

How long have you lived in Newtown: Proud resident of Newtown for 26 years.

Educational information: BS in Business Administration and Marketing Science, University of Connecticut.

Occupation and Employer: Managing Partner, YouGov/Harrison Group. I was a founding partner of Harrison Group, a strategic marketing consulting and research services firm established in Newtown in 1996 and acquired by YouGov in 2010. I serve as a senior advisor to clients across industries including technology, interactive entertainment, finance, and media.

1. What is the most critical issue facing Newtown today? I believe our most critical priority is safeguarding affordability for all. Even as we face challenging economic conditions, we must also provide our kids with an excellent education, support public safety, pursue smart growth, and care for our roads and facilities — all while preserving the rural character we value. Balancing these goals is essential, but affordability must remain at the center so we can all continue to make Newtown our home.

2. What is the single most valuable skill or talent you can offer to the community? My most valuable skill is helping make complex decisions clear and accessible to the public. My service to Newtown includes ten years on the Legislative Council, with four years as Council Chairman. While Chairman (2017-2021), I led the Legislative Council in passing municipal and education budgets (with zero or minimal tax increases), capital improvement plans, town ordinances, Charter revisions, approvals of open space, and the opening of the Newtown Community Center and the new Police Station. Across all of these efforts, a unifying theme was my effort to invite the public into the conversation and help explain the processes behind each action. I believe that broader participation and transparency make outcomes stronger and easier for taxpayers to accept.

3. If elected, how will you apply that talent or skill to best address the critical issue you identified in Question #1? As a member of the Board of Selectmen, I will continue to scrutinize spending so that every tax dollar delivers the greatest possible value to residents. I will also push for greater transparency and clearer explanations of how decisions are made, so the public can see how priorities are set and why choices are made. By combining fiscal discipline with openness, I can help ensure that affordability remains at the center of our work while Newtown continues to move forward.

BOARD OF SELECTMEN — FIRST SELECTMAN

Name: Jeff Capeci

Party affiliation: Republican

Website: capecigardnerfornewtown.com

Family information: I have been married to my wife, Tanya, for 29 years. We have two children: Bradley, 26, and Greta, 25, both graduates of Newtown Public Schools. Bradley is a Mechanical Engineer and works at a firm in Shelton and Greta is a Registered Nurse at Bay State Medical Center in Springfield, Mass. Dior is our 8-year-old black rescue cat, LuLu is our 3-year-old Transylvanian Hound/Lab mix rescue and Sage, the newest member of the family, is our eight-month-old Jack Russell/Pug or Jug. I enjoy walking the dogs around the Fairfield Hills campus loop.

How long have you lived in Newtown: 29 years.

Educational information: Graduate of Ridgefield High School, BS Engineering Hofstra University, MS Computer Science NYU Tandon School.

Occupation and Employer: Incumbent First Selectman, Town of Newtown. Previously I was an engineer in the semiconductor industry.

1. What is the most critical issue facing Newtown today? The single most pressing issue facing Newtown today is affordability — how we preserve the exceptional quality of life our residents expect while addressing the rising costs of housing and the tax burden on homeowners. According to Zillow, the median home sale price in Newtown as of August 2025 is about $715,000 — up ~30.6% year-over-year. Rental options are both scarce and expensive. Average rent in Newtown across all property types is ~$2,200/month. In recent years residents have seen significant property tax increases. This has made it harder for young families to buy here, for seniors to stay here, and for longtime residents to remain in the community they love.

As First Selectman, I confront this challenge every day. Through fiscal discipline and careful budgeting, I ensure that every tax dollar is spent wisely while continuing to deliver essential services and maintain our schools, public safety, infrastructure, and open spaces. I also prioritize long-term planning by managing critical capital projects and investing in resilient infrastructure so our community is prepared for the future.

In addition, I am focused on growing our commercial tax base. By supporting smart economic development — projects such as the reuse of Fairfield Hills and attracting businesses that align with Newtown’s character — we can diversify revenue, create jobs, and ease the financial burden on residents.

Affordability is a complex issue, but by combining fiscal responsibility, forward-looking planning, and thoughtful growth, we can keep Newtown strong, vibrant, and a place where people of all ages can thrive.

2. What is the single most valuable skill or talent you can offer to the community? The single most valuable skill I bring to Newtown is my ability to solve problems with a practical, disciplined approach. As an engineer, I am trained to analyze complex challenges, identify solutions, and see projects through to completion. I’ve applied that skill every day in my first term as First Selectman, navigating escalating costs while still delivering budgets that protect taxpayers and maintain the high-quality services our residents rely on.

I’ve built upon the progress of prior administrations by advancing the voter-approved plans for Fairfield Hills, ensuring the project is moving forward in a way that respects community values while preparing for future growth. At the same time, I’ve supported smart commercial development that strengthens our tax base, while expanding resident services and keeping town government open and accessible.

Problem-solving is not just about numbers or projects — it’s about listening to people, weighing options carefully, and making decisions that improve lives. That is how I have led in my first term, and it’s the approach I will continue to bring to this role.

3. If elected, how will you apply that talent or skill to best address the critical issue you identified in Question #1? If re-elected, I will apply my problem-solving skills as an engineer and my experience as First Selectman to continue addressing the critical challenge of balancing essential services with the rising costs that impact every household so that Newtown remains affordable. That means approaching each budget with discipline and transparency, making sure every dollar is spent wisely, and ensuring residents see real value for their tax dollars.

It also means continuing to advance smart commercial development to broaden our tax base, reducing the burden on homeowners while strengthening our local economy. At the same time, I will keep building on the Fairfield Hills redevelopment to deliver on the voter-approved vision, expand resident services, and make long-term investments in infrastructure and public safety.

Above all, I will keep listening, engaging openly, and solving problems in a way that keeps Newtown strong today while preparing responsibly for tomorrow.

1. What is the most critical issue facing Newtown today? Newtown lacks a comprehensive, strategic plan for operations, conservation, and land use that is clearly understood, trusted, and embraced by our residents. Without it, we risk losing sight of what makes our community so special. Having such a plan is essential not just for managing growth, but for preserving the character, beauty, and spirit of the town we all love.

2. What is the single most valuable skill or talent you can offer to the community? I bring 50 years of officer-level corporate business management experience, including budget management, operations, employee management, client relations, pricing, strategic planning, and product development. More importantly, I bring the leadership needed to listen, build consensus, and move Newtown forward. I have both the professional experience and the personal commitment to manage Newtown’s municipal operations today while preparing thoughtful strategies for tomorrow.

3. If elected, how will you apply that talent or skill to best address the critical issue you identified in Question #1? I would begin by developing yearly strategic goals and objectives for the operation of the town down to the department and board or commission level. I would also conduct a series of open, town-wide forums on conservation and land use. These forums will review current legislation at both the state and local level, examine our present situation, identify issues and opportunities, and present thoughtful plans for the future. Most importantly, they will give residents a real voice in shaping the choices that affect our families and neighborhoods. My goal is to create not only a roadmap for Newtown, but also a shared vision that reflects the pride, values, and hopes of our entire community.

POLICE COMMISSION

Name: Neil Chaudhary

Party affiliation: Newtown Forward Party (vetted by the National Forward Party and endorsed by the CT Independent Party)

Website: neilfornewtown.com

Family information: Wife Jennifer, son Evan (in college) and daughter Maya (senior in HS) and currently an exchange student from Japan. Two dogs, one lizard and a pond full of fish.

How long have you lived in Newtown: 23 years.

Educational information: I have a PhD in research psychology, an MPhil (like an MA but research focused or an advanced MA) in experimental psychology and my BA from University of Rochester.

Occupation and Employer: Research psychologist focusing on behavioral traffic safety (e.g., curbing speeding, crashes, teen driver safety, distracted driving). I work for Preusser Research Group, Inc in Trumbull as CEO and lead scientist. DO I MENTION “Owner.”

1. What is the most critical issue facing Newtown today? The most critical issues in town are related to development and the erosion of local control. There is also a need to make Newtown affordable for existing residents by focusing on fair and appropriate taxation.

However, the police commission has little to no control over those issues. So, from the perspective of the police commission I would say public safety in general is the issue we need to focus on. Thankfully most crime is minimal in Newtown. However, our traffic and traffic safety issues need to be addressed.

2. What is the single most valuable skill or talent you can offer to the community? My experience. I have volunteered in many roles for the town, state and federal government. I have worked with police departments across the nation for over 20 years. I have conducted seminars educating officers on effective methods for curbing death and injury on the roadways. I have already been a member of the police commission.

But there is an interconnectedness between many boards and commissions in Newtown. I have served on the Legislative Council for five years some of them as vice Chairman. I have served several other committees and entities (e.g., Public Safety Committee, Community Emergency Response Team). I have even helped produce our town’s health fair. All this knowledge contributed to my effectiveness as a police commissioner. I have helped others understand town processes to reach the board’s goals. I even served on the Ordinance Committee noting that many ordinances start with the Board of Police Commissioners.

3. If elected, how will you apply that talent or skill to best address the critical issue you identified in Question #1? There is no humble way to put this. I am an internationally renowned traffic safety scientist. The Board of Police Commissioners is our town’s traffic authority. My entire career has been spent saving lives and reducing injuries on our nation’s roadways. I am an ideal fit for this board and will use my decades of experience to make our roadways safer. Safer roadways keep traffic flowing, and avoid unnecessary costs both to the town and the public.

If re-elected to the Newtown Police Commission for a third term, I will continue to serve this community ensuring that the men and women who serve us are acting in the best interest of this community. As an active member, I will continue to advocate for safe streets, reduced crime, officers in our schools, and drug awareness programs. With over 25 years of active first responder experience as an EMT (currently Assistant Chief for Newtown), my business experience, and the past six years serving this town as the Vice Chair of the Newtown Police Commission, I am the right person for this role!

1. What is the most critical issue facing Newtown today? Newtown has a number of critical issues facing it today, however the one that is most directly handled by the Police Commission is the ever-present issue of traffic

2. What is the single most valuable skill or talent you can offer to the community? I have an analytical, logical mind and a desire to explore lots of different angles of any problem.

3. If elected, how will you apply that talent or skill to best address the critical issue you identified in Question #1? Traffic is a constant issue that Newtown has fought against for decades. It is a multi-faceted issue that has no one size fits all solution. I believe my ability to analyze and explore different angles of a problem will help find solutions to problems around town. An additional advantage to exploring all angles is that just because a solution that was considered won’t work for the issue at hand, doesn’t mean that it won’t prove useful for a future one.

1. What is the most critical issue facing Newtown today? The most critical issue facing Newtown today in which the Police Commission has oversight would be traffic control. Traffic impacts our everyday life; commuting to work, kids getting to and from school in a timely manner, overall productivity for our residents — it’s more than just delays at a red light. With the increased development interest in our community this issue needs to be addressed in a handful of thoughtful, insightful, and impactful perspectives.

Name: Renee Weimann

Party affiliation: Unaffiliated

Website: newtownctdemocrats.org, Newtown CT Democratic Town Committee

Educational information: University of South Alabama, BS, Criminal Justice; CT Certified Town Clerk, 2013; Notary Public.

Occupation and Employer: Assistant Town Clerk, 18 years, Town of Newtown.

Family information: When we moved to Newtown 25 years ago, it quickly became the place where my family’s story truly took root. Here, we raised the greatest joys of my life — our children, Mitchell and Victoria — both proud graduates of Newtown High School. Mitchell went on to serve our country in the United States Coast Guard, dedicating himself to protecting others and upholding the values of service and commitment. Victoria followed her passion into the Parks & Recreation field, building a career centered on community, connection, and enriching the lives of others. I could not be prouder of the paths they have chosen and the meaningful places they have carved out for themselves in this world.

My father was a lifelong member of the United States Air Force, and it was during his service in the 1950s, while stationed in England, that he met my mother. Their story began overseas but quickly grew into a lifelong partnership built on love, service, and family. My father devoted his life to the military, exemplifying discipline, loyalty, and sacrifice. My mother, meanwhile, was an accomplished cook and she loved sharing her knowledge with me — not only recipes, but also the joy of gathering people around the table.

Though they have both since passed, their influence continues to guide me. I carry a deep respect for hard work, integrity, and honoring those who came before us. I hold a love for tradition, creativity in the kitchen, and the importance of nurturing others. Together, they instilled in me the values of self-sufficiency, respect for others (especially our elders), and the belief that dedication and care — whether in service to your country or in preparing a meal — can leave a lasting impact.

1. What is the most critical issue facing Newtown today? Accountability to the taxpayers. As your Town Clerk, I believe accountability means putting the right people in the right roles to best serve our community. Elections are important, and some roles — like the Town Clerk — require specialized training, technical knowledge, and professional experience to be done well.

2. Single most valuable skill or talent you can offer to the community? I have a comprehensive understanding of established practices, combined with practical experience. This background uniquely positions me to bring a fresh perspective to modernizing our office. My 18 years of experience as Assistant Town Clerk have provided me with a deep understanding of the daily operations of the office. I have frequently been entrusted with fulfilling all the duties of the Town Clerk in their absence, which has prepared me to confidently assume the role.

Beyond technical expertise, I have a proven track record of handling sensitive matters with the utmost professionalism and care. Managing these records requires not only accuracy and discretion but also compassion for the individuals and families involved — qualities I consistently apply to every aspect of my work.

3. If elected, how will you apply that talent or skill to best address the critical issue you identified in Question #1? As Assistant Town Clerk, the only path for advancement is to step into the role of Town Clerk. By doing so, I will not only continue to serve our community, but also will be able to pursue certification and take advantage of additional professional training opportunities. The responsibilities of the Town Clerk are state-mandated, and I am fully prepared to meet those requirements while bringing forward new ideas to strengthen the office.

In addition, I am committed to modernizing our systems. This includes improving filing processes, enhancing record-sharing, and centralizing access for departments to make research more efficient, reduce redundancies, and ultimately save time and resources for both staff and residents.

How long have you lived in Newtown: My wife and I moved here in 2017 when our twin daughters were born.

Educational information: I graduated from Sacred Heart University with a dual major in History and Political Science. Occupation and Employer: I have worked in the security department for Sikorsky Aircraft since 2001. I’m also an entrepreneur and small business owner.

1. What is the most critical issue facing Newtown today? Since the start of the pandemic thousands have fled neighboring states in search of a new place to call home. Many have been drawn to Newtown’s Rockwellesque charm and settled here to start and raise their families. The character of our idyllic little town will undoubtedly change as we grow but each of us has a voice in what that change will look like. Newtown may not look like it did a hundred years ago but how we develop will determine if things remain “Nicer in Newtown” for the next hundred years.

2. What is the single most valuable skill or talent you can offer to the community? My background in research and intelligence analysis, coupled with my legal education, honed my ability to rationally and objectively evaluate ambiguous information from multiple sources, use structured reasoning to make sound judgments and reach sensible conclusions, and then present persuasive arguments while minimizing inherent human biases.

Which is an overly complicated way of saying, critical thinking.

3. If elected, how will you apply that talent or skill to best address the critical issue you identified in Question #1? The Zoning Board of Appeals is tasked with balancing the right of an individual owner to utilize their property as they deem necessary and appropriate to benefit their life, with the town’s need for development, while preserving the character of the community.

I wrote my undergraduate thesis on the US Supreme Court case of Kelo v New London because of my passion for private property rights. I’m also a real estate broker and a business owner. The juxtaposition of those seemingly adversarial positions provides me a special insight into the competing interests of both sides and the ability to make fair and impartial decisions.
