Catherine Violet Hubbard Animal Sanctuary is excited to announce the hiring of two new educational leaders: Ken Elkins as director of education and partnerships, and Edward Clarke as lead educator. For the organization, it is an exciting expansion of its programming to engage people of all ages in kindness for animals, habitats and one another.

This dedicated education team will bring the mission of the sanctuary to life by sharing knowledge, compassion, and a deep respect for all living beings. With diverse backgrounds in wildlife care, environmental science, and humane education, Elkins and Clarke will inspire curiosity and empathy through every program, connecting people of all ages to the wonder of nature and the importance of protecting it.

Jennifer Hubbard, president of CVH Animal Sanctuary, said, “We are thrilled to expand our educational programming at this key time.” Hubbard added, “Welcoming Ken and Edward marks a milestone in our ability to fully deliver on the sanctuary’s mission. Catherine wanted every animal to know she was kind, and from that simple wish grew a place where caring for animals and their habitats also builds human empathy. Our new educators are the perfect fit to help us achieve that goal.”

With the newly built Catherine’s Learning Barn ready to welcome students and programs throughout the year, and the sanctuary’s 34 acres as a robust living classroom, the timing to expand the educational platform of the sanctuary could not be better.

About The Educators

Elkins, director of education and partnerships, has over 20 years of experience in environmental education, conservation, and community outreach. Formerly with several Audubon centers and co-creator of the award-winning Bird Tales program, Elkins is dedicated to making nature education inclusive and inspiring for all ages.

“It’s an honor to join the CVH sanctuary team and build upon its foundation of education curriculum and teaching that’s based in compassion,” said Elkins. “Through my work, I look forward to making every learning opportunity an invitation to humane connection for both people and animals.”

Working under Elkins’ leadership, Clarke will be a key figure in establishing a robust program of activities for children, adults, and groups. A former paleontologist turned National Park Service educator, Clarke has led field trips, classroom lessons, and youth science projects.

“I’m incredibly excited to be the new lead educator for the sanctuary,” said Clarke. “I look forward to working with this fantastic team to create impactful educational programming for students of all ages.”
