Snapshot: Diane Saraceni
Family: Here in Newtown it’s me and my husband Mike.
How did you meet your husband? We both worked at GE when it was still in Danbury, and we both like the Red Sox. I had a lot of Red Sox stuff on my desk. I was also leading the volunteer organization and he wanted to do a volunteer project, so between those two that’s how we met.
Pets: Our dog Goose.
How long have you lived in Newtown? Six years.
Work: I am the audit operations coordinator at Northeast University in Boston. I also own Sweet Caroline’s Bake Shop. I just started that within the last year. It’s vegan baking. I also get people who are allergic to eggs or dairy, or other dietary restrictions. I went to Johnson & Wales University, majoring in international baking and arts, and I was the 2019 Student Commencement speaker.
What do you enjoy doing with your free time? We travel. I also serve as the president of Animal Welfare Society in New Milford, and that takes a lot of time.
What did you want to be when you grew up? An accountant.
Favorite food? I love Asian food. I think curry is my favorite.
Do you have a favorite author? Michael Connolly.
What is the most recent book you’ve read? Mary Stone has a series of murder mystery books that I love.
Favorite TV show? We do a lot of Netflix, so we’ll pick a series and watch that and move on to the next one. Unless the Red Sox or Bruins are on. Then we’re watching that.
Favorite actor? Sandra Oh. I think she’s hysterical.
Who would you like to be stuck in an elevator with? David Ortiz.
What is your proudest accomplishment? We raised a wonderful daughter who graduated a biomedical engineer, and is now a very successful residential housing general manager.
Favorite color? Blue.
Do you have a favorite podcast? Right now I’m listening to The Audit Podcast, because of work.
Favorite travel destination? We usually don’t go to the same place twice, because we really like to explore. It’s either Alaska or Iceland though. They were both so beautiful.
What is your favorite thing about Newtown? Everyone is so nice. It’s a great community, and you have pretty much everything you need right here except the big box stores … and that’s why I like it here. We don’t have those big chain stores. That’s one of the reasons we moved here, in fact.
Do you have a personal credo? If you’re going to do it, do it right.
