Hit And Run Driver
Newtown Police report that an unoccupied car owned by Laurie Kilchevsky of Newtown was parked in the private parking lot of 30 Church Hill Road at approximately 1 pm June 1. The operator said when he returned to the vehicle he found moderate damage to the front passenger side of the vehicle. Police could not locate surveillance video footage of the incident.
The case was declared closed pending further investigation.
Collision On Merge
Newtown Police report Cameron Tisi, 16, of Newtown, operating a 2024 Subaru Ascent, was traveling westbound on Mile Hill Road in the left travel lane at 3:41 pm June 5. Robert Rosado, 65, of East Haven, operating a 2022 Kenworth truck, was in the right lane. Tisi attempted to speed up to get ahead of Rosado as the lanes merged, but struck Rosado's vehicle.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
Tisi was issued a verbal warning for unsafe passing.
Struck Tree
Newtown Police report Brad Schilling, 35, of Bristol, operating a 2017 Jeep Wrangler, was traveling westbound on Berkshire Road at 11:52 am June 6. On a left curve in the road, Schilling left the roadway and collided with a tree.
No injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed.
Schilling was issued a written warning for failure to maintain a proper lane.
Collision In Intersection
Newtown Police report Josiah Riley, 19, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2012 Volkswagen Beetle, was traveling westbound on Borough Lane at 3:51 pm June 6. Susa Altabet, 76, of Leverett, Mass., operating a 2017 Volkswagen Golf, was traveling southbound on South Main Street. Riley struck Altabet's vehicle.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
Riley was issued a written warning for failure to grant right of way at an intersection.
Left Drive, Hit Car
Newtown Police report Sandra Santorelli, 61, of Southbury, operating a 2022 Toyota Rav4, was pulling from a driveway onto Church Hill Road at 12:32 pm June 7. Suili De Carvarlho Nunes, 50, of Troy, N.Y., operating a 2012 Volkswagen Jetta, was traveling south on Glen Road and turned right at a green light to travel westbound on Church Hill Road. The vehicles collided.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
Santorelli was issued a verbal warning for failure to grant right of way from a private driveway.
Backed Into Car
Newtown Police report Joshua Adams, 45, of Newtown, operating a 2025 Ford Econoline ambulance owned by Newtown Volunteer Ambulance, was backing the vehicle up in a driveway on South Main Street at 1:32 pm June 7. A 2026 Ford Explorer owned by Western Connecticut Health Network and operated by Andrew Caraballo, 35, of Sandy Hook, was parked in the driveway. Adams backed into Caraballo's vehicle.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
No enforcement action was taken since the incident occurred on private property.
Collision In Parking Lot
Newtown Police report Ryan Hockstetler, 17, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2001 Ford Ranger, was traveling westbound in the parking lot of 6 Queen Street and was attempting to make a left turn into 3:03 pm June 8. He struck a parked 2023 Honda CR-V owned by Robert Craybas, of Newtown.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
No enforcement action was taken since the incident occurred on private property.
Blew Horn, Hit Anyway
Newtown Police report Mary Tietjen, 75, of Newtown, operating a 2021 GMC Yukon, was parked in a lot on Church Hill Road at 3:03 pm June 8. She was parked next to a 2014 Toyota Corolla owned by Alyssa Mancini, 41, of Newtown. Mancini noticed that Tietjen was backing out and about to hit her car and blew her horn, but Tietjen struck her vehicle anyway.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
No enforcement action was taken since the incident occurred on private property.
Failure To Grant Right Of Way
Newtown Police report Kazimiera Cwikla, 63, of Newtown, operating a 2023 Subaru Crosstrek, was waiting to make a left turn from Mobil Gas Station on Church Hill Road at 3:38 pm June 8. Jennifer Kotkin, 51, of Newtown, operating a 2013 Toyota Tacoma, was traveling westbound on Church Hill Road in the left turn only lane. Cwikla started to make a left turn onto Church Hill Road and struck Kotkin's vehicle.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
Cwikla was issued a written warning for failure to grant right of way while making a left turn.
Struck Rock
Newtown Police report Peter Vishnia, 40, of Danbury, operating a 2021 Jeep Cherokee, was traveling westbound on Berkshire Road at 4:12 pm June 10. The vehicle began experiencing mechanical difficulties with the front passenger side wheel, causing Vishnia to lose control. The vehicle left the roadway and struck a rock.
No injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed.
Vishnia was issued a written warning for failure to renew operator's license and failure to drive in the proper lane.
Mazda Struck Subaru
Newtown Police report Shannon Strothers, 50, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2014 Mazda CX-5, was traveling northbound on Elm Drive at 7:54 am June 11. Matthew Sullivan, 50, of Newtown, operating a 2018 Subaru WRX, was traveling eastbound on Sugar Street. Strothers came to a stop on the intersection with Sugar Street and proceeded into the intersection, and struck Sullivan's vehicle.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
Strothers was issued a verbal warning for failure to grant right of way at an intersection.
One Vehicle Towed Following Incident
Newtown Police report Shaun Fitzgerald, 42, of Danbury, operating a 2013 Ford Focus, was traveling on Saw Mill Road at 3:51 pm June 15. Emily Bivona, 29, of Bethel, operating a 2024 Buick Encore, was traveling southbound on Mt Pleasant Road. Fitzgerald made a left turn from Saw Mill Road onto Mt Pleasant Road and struck Bivona's vehicle.
No injuries were reported. Fitzgerald's vehicle was towed.
Fitzgerald was issued a verbal warning for failure to grant right of way at an intersection.
